KKIM NEWS ALERT

From the KKIM News Desk

Today, Governor Bill Richardson issued a plea to the Senate leaders to take the 816 page Domestic Partnership Bill out of the committees. The bill is being read and heard in the Judiciary and Public Affairs Committees with referrals to the Finance Committee for cost impact. Governor Richardson stated, "I believe the entire Senate needs to be able to vote on this bill. I am positive and confident that when presented to the entire Senate that it will pass." However, some commentators are disagreeing with the Governor saying that the votes on the Senate floor have not changed since the last vote when this type bill was defeated by 8 votes. Senator Cisco McSorley has stated that the bill will not be discussed or voted on in his committee until Friday.

It appears that SB-183 will be voted on by the full senate as early as Thursday morning.

It is CRITICAL that we IMMEDIATELY contact the Democratic Senators listed below:
• Thank them for voting NO on domestic partnership in 2009.
• Ask them to PLEASE vote NO on SB-183 tomorrow, 2/4, to ensure New Mexico will not achieve same-sex marriage.
