He never sends an email, but wanted us to know that he is still praying for all the needs posted here at the Cup…I suspect there are many like this wonderful gentleman, who read the Cup but yet we never hear from them……..but their prayers are heard by our LORD!!!!
Remember and go to www.mykkim.com and enter the “Weekend to Remember” contest! Go and find out details on this AWESOME marriage conference coming to New Mexico!
Please keep me and Sharon in your prayers as this is an extra demanding week. Thanks so much.
Our prayers go out to Tom Lewis as his father Vernon Lewis passed away this weekend. We love you Tom.
Hi Dewey:
Wanted to let you know Tom’s father passed away early yesterday morning (Sun.)…….I know Tom and his family covet your prayers during this time.
Last week his father had been improving, and they had even evaluated his residence to see if he could possibly come home Tues. of this week—guess he ultimately did get to go home….:)
I know Tom values your friendship and wanted to let you know…..thanks.
Janet Eldridge
Lewis & Associates
Yes, Janet Tom’s Father did get to go home! AMEN By the way Tom was just here at KKIM and put on the Cross International Radio-A-Thon in Nov. I should add that I still get calls from people that want to give to Cross International………..you can go on line to www.crossinternational.org Our effort is for orphans in Mozambique.
You might remember a few weeks back I posted the write up, about a study done that showed how people that do not ever meet, but still touch each others lives, like here at the CUP, are happier………I am very thankful and PRAISE GOD for all of you here at the CUP. I am thankful we all can come together and pray for each other. On that note, read further down on this posting and see what Dave Fjeld says about this……
My thanks to Valley View Christian Church in Edgewood for having me Saturday………..
Hi Brother,
Just home after a busy day, but I did want to again express how thankful Valley View Christian Church is for you braving the ice and snow to bless our men at the breakfast. Many, many comments on how you touched them. Praise to our wonderful Lord Jesus Christ.
Praying for you and Sharon and hope to see you soon.
God bless,
Leonard
Thanks Leonard, I hope you will have us back! Also special thanks to Tim who called me on my cell to avoid I-25 as an accident backed up the interstate. If you ever would want me or Frank Haley to speak to your Church or organization just email me. We love getting on and meeting folks and sharing what God has put on our hearts!!! By the way I wish I know Tim’s last name.he had my business card and was able to reach me on my cell phone and save me much time. God Bless you for your thoughtfulness Tim!
What a wonderful evening in the LORD Friday night at Heights Christian Church! There was a wonderful turn out for the prayer meeting! PRAISE GOD!!!
I want to thank Dave Fjeld of the Windom, Minn. newspaper for the nice write up he did on the Cup and KKIM in his Dec. 24th column. Dave actually reprinted the Christmas card we sent out that our dear friend Don Johnson sent us. He also gave us a plug!!! God Bless you Dave and we pray that your broken ankle is healing well.
Here’s Dave now……just got this email…………
Dewey,
Thanks for the note and keeping me in your prayers. I’m slowly on the
mend, but learned Friday I’ve got to have another one or two screws
inserted in the ankle on Tuesday. They took another x-ray on Friday and
discovered that, after the swelling went down, there’s too big of a gap
between the ball of the ankle and the outside bone. So, they’ve got to
insert another screw, maybe two, to close the gap. They inserted three
other screws earlier that will remain in the ankle. These one or two new
ones will be taken out later.
A bit discouraging, but I wasn’t totally surprised. I had the same thing
happen with this same ankle 23 years ago.
The doc said I should be off crutches maybe not by the time pitchers and
catchers report, but certainly by the official start of spring training.
As for slipping in a plug about your website, not a problem. However, I
have my column done for this week, so I’ll have to do it next week.
I appreciate your daily cup, although I obviously don’t know who a lot of
the people are that send in notes. It’s still nice to — as our pastor at
the Free Church says — “Weep with those weep and rejoice with those who
rejoice.”
The pieces you pick up and share from various books and publications are a
real lift.
Keep up the good work — God’s work!

“Weep with those that weep and rejoice with those who rejoice!” Love that Dave!
Please keep Dave in your prayers for complete healing.
Sam responded to a posting from last week…….
Dear Dewey, Sharon and family, Greetings
Dewey, your words of wisdom last week of (not word for word) that my life means nothing unless it is doing the Will of God. Those words have gone through my mind a million times. And are so comforting. Not to mention, instructive.
I have wondered many times why God allowed me to live when my neck was broken. Just one vertabra up and I wouldn’t have. But those words tell me completely. I know I have a purpose. And after reading those words that purpose has gotten so clear to me. Just to live my life as our Lord intends. To do His Will on earth. To be an example. To have mercy. And for me, to listen, and most of all to Pray.
Todays ‘Cup’ said it very well. To listen twice as much as speak.
I heard once that ‘the sweetest thing a person can hear is someone say their name’. How many times have you forgotten someones name right after meeting them? I have too many times to remember. After hearing those words, I have tried my best to remember names whenever I hear them. It seems like a small duty. But important all the same. When you remember a persons name they feel like you do care who they are, its a great thing to do.
Anyway Dewey, your favorite sentence this year has written itself on my heart! And I Praise our Lord for putting them on yours! Thank you again. Sam
Sam, I think the that verse that I used was the one that has become my Bible verse for the year 2009 and all the time!
“My life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus” Acts 20:24
Also one of the blessings I have here at KKIM and the CUP is sharing the good news……..and hearing from all you good friends………During these times we need to focus on God and what is good…….
Kind words are like honey………sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Proverbs 16:24
On the weekends I take Reno and Buffy on at least one walk, if not two. We go up the volcano rocks to the west of us and it is so wonderful, they get a good work out, I get a good work out, and I talk to the Lord………but mostly listen. Now Reno and Buffy have me running a lot….so this is so good for me to get ready for softball!!! I PRAISE GOD for this time and our doggies! Brownie are oldest is now 14 years old!
As a discipline of your heart, learn to be peaceful and safe in GOD in every situation. Anne Ortlund
I will hope continually, and will praise YOU yet more and more………Psalm 71:14
From morning till night GOD gives personal attention to each of HIS children. Martin De Haan II
Please know that GOD knows you………everything about you……..
First, God knows you and has created you for a special purpose.
“Second, God has given you special gifts toward the satisfaction of his purpose. You are unique, designed with an amazing, one-of-a-kind set of spiritual DNA. By functioning within your God-given gifts, you can realize the reason you were created.
“Third, God wants you to discover what his purpose is, his vision for your life.”

We have these prayer needs………..
Lilly needs prayer
Please also pray for baby Lilly as she is having problems breathing.
Thank you for your prayers for baby Lilly.
Dear Dewey,
I would hope you would consider my prayer request. I have been in severe pain for over seven years due a medical practice error done on my back. I have been told nothing can be done except for multiple medications, which are breaking down my body. I pray to God every night for my husband and daughter because they are always there to lend me a hand when I need one. Bill and I were only married a few years when this happened and it ended my beloved nursing career, but still he has stood strong beside me and I love him for that. We will celebrating our 10th anniversary on Valentines Day and have decided to throw a big party to celebrate. Could you please keep me in your prayers, you never know a few extra might help ease the pain. Thank you.

Please keep Melissa, Bill and family in your prayers!
Please pray for Ruth Ann Carr………
Oh Dewey,
My sister, Ruth Ann Carr in Phoenix has had serious health issues since
Oct 29th. Just a few minutes ago, we got the news, she has lung cancer.
Please put her on your prayer list.
Love, DeEtta
We will be praying for Ruth Ann, DeEtta………our prayers are with you all. I know De Etta, as I worked for her and her husband Ken in Laporte, Indiana……they are dear people, and DeEtta loves her sister very much.
This FUNNY BONE SHOULD BRIGHTEN YOUR MONDAY………….
He ordered one hamburger, one order of French fries and one drink. The old man unwrapped the plain hamburger and carefully cut it in half. He placed one half in front of his wife. He then carefully counted out the French fries, dividing them into two piles and neatly placed one pile in front of his wife.
He took a sip of the drink, his wife took a sip and then set the cup down between them. As he began to eat his few bites of hamburger, the people around them kept looking over and whispering. You could tell they were thinking, “That poor old couple – all they can afford is one meal for the two of them.”
As the man began to eat his fries a young man came to the table. He politely offered to buy another meal for the old couple. The old man said they were just fine – They were used to sharing everything.
The surrounding people notic ed the little old lady hadn’t eaten a bite. She sat there watching her husband eat and occasionally taking turns sipping the drink.
Again the young man came over and begged them to let him buy another meal for them. This time the old woman said “No, thank you, we are used to sharing everything.”
As the old man finished and was wiping his face neatly with the napkin, the young man again came over to the little old lady who had yet to eat a single bite of food and asked “What is it you are waiting for?”
She answered

THE TEETH.”
Finding Rest in Distressing Times
God and I have a new year’s tradition. It started when I was in high school. As I spent time in God’s Word one New Year’s Day, He led me to a couple passages I knew were to be my “theme” verses for the year. They proved to be a continual source of encouragement and direction throughout the months ahead.
Now every time another year rolls around, I’m on the alert for new theme verses God might have for me. This year as I’ve considered the uncertainty and anxiety swirling around and within me, Psalm 4 seems particularly relevant. Perhaps it will be for you too.
David begins by begging God to relieve him from the distressing circumstances he’s facing. Then he addresses the men around him who, in the midst of the bleak situation, seem to have given up on God. They’re turning to “delusions” and “seek[ing] false gods,” perhaps by looking to them rather than the Lord for deliverance (v. 2). Their question, “Who can show us any good?” reveals the depth of their despair (v. 6).
I can relate. In the past months, I’ve often felt distressed, wanted to question God’s presence and care for me, and been tempted to look to others (especially political, spiritual, and corporate leaders) to restore peace, security, and prosperity instead of hoping in God’s provision and direction. I don’t expect much will change in 2009.
Through David’s example in Psalm 4, however, I sense God inviting me to respond differently. In spite of seemingly hopeless circumstances, David remained confident in God. He knew he belonged to God, and he knew that meant God would take care of him: “Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD will hear when I call to him” (v. 3). He realized that only God can “show us good,” so he sought His favor: “Let the light of your face shine upon us, O LORD” (v. 6). Instead of seeking comfort and material prosperity, he reveled in his relationship with God: “You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound” (v.7). And as he trusted in God, he experienced peace and rest in the midst of insecurity: “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety” (v. 8).
That’s the kind of trust, joy, and assurance I want to be the theme of my life in this new year. I know there’s no way I can produce them on my own, so I’m asking God, who worked these truths into David, to also work them in me. I pray that He will do the same for you.

Dewey, you must see this. The wife of the president of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Commission sent this to me. It’s a call to prayer. You may have to “copy” and “paste” it to see the web site. Let me know what you think, maybe put it on your “daily cup”..

It is a fact. The letter was sent to someone by Rev.Rob Schenck.

A Miracle at the Capitol Building
,Dear Angela,
Some doors only Heaven can open. That
was the case yesterday when I was prompted by the
Holy Spirit to do something that in my mind I knew
could not be accomplished.
When we notified the Capitol Hill police of our intentions they told us
in no uncertain terms we would be arrested for our
actions. Yet, in obedience to what I knew to be a
divine prompting, I proceeded, along with my
colleague, Rev. Pat Mahoney of the Christian Defense
Coalition, to the Capitol Building.and there
experienced a miracle.
It just so happened (as it so often does for people of faith), when we entered the
Capitol complex we met Congressman Paul Broun of
Georgia, in the hallway. Congressman Broun is a
dynamic and unapologetic Christian. I told him what
God had prompted me to do. He immediately agreed and
joined me, along with Rev. Mahoney and our chief of
staff, Peggy Birchfield, as together we held a
prayer service inside the US Capitol that included
anointing the doorway President-Elect Barack Obama
will pass through on his way to the platform to be
sworn in as the 44Th president of the United States
on January 20Th.

>> service, please click here.

Annointing with oil is a rich tradition both in the Bible and in the history
of the US Capitol.
Oil symbolizes consecration, or setting something apart for God’s use.
George Washington used oil during the dedication of the US
Capitol. We used the oil to set apart the walkway
and doors that will be the literal right-of-passage
for Barack Obama as he ascends to the highest office
in our land.
Bear in mind this is one of the most
cordoned off and highly secured sites in America. It
is virtually inaccessible. Yet, there we were,
holding a consecration service in obedience to God –
the very thing He had placed in my heart. Rep. Broun
delivered a short sermon-like talk on the need to
obey God and His will, and for the future president
to do what is right.
I read Bible passages and applied sacred oil to the doorposts of the arched
doorway leading out of the Capitol and onto the
inaugural stage, immediately in front of the riser
where Obama will stand with Chief Justice John
Roberts who will administer the Oath of Office. Rev.
Mahoney read a powerful inaugural prayer by Dr.
Billy Graham, delivered 40 years ago. Congressman
Broun referred to the location of the prayer service
as “the doorway that (President-Elect Obama) will
enter through to start of his presidency.” That
doorway has now been consecrated and anointed for
the purposes of God.
You and your friends, family, and fellow church members can now join us in prayer
for our nation and the transition to a new
administration by simply watching the video and
praying with us. The more people who watch this
video, the more powerful it becomes. That’s why we
also need you to forward it on to as many people as
possible. If Christians across the nation will join
together in prayer, I know God will “hear from
Heaven and heal our land.” Please watch this amazing
video yourself by clicking here
http://www.faithandaction.org/2009/01/07/obama-anointing-prayer-for-walkway-to-inaugural-s tage/
and then forward it
on to your family, friends, and fellow church
members so together we can raise our voices to God
on behalf of our nation in an act of repentance and
dedication. Your missionary to our nation’s leaders,
