Good Morning Family of God!
BRRRR! Can you feel Fall finally coming to us here in New Mexico? We have had a beautiful Fall this year and I give thanks to God for every warm and sunny day. Especially in the light of the terrible destruction for the East Coast communities who, after Hurricane Sandy, are now dealing with even more loss through another storm blowing in with high waters, snow, and continued power loss to those areas. We pray for God to give them strength and comfort in the midst of these trying times.
And now, a cheerful message from our Guest Barista- Shari Johnson.

Matthew 14 27-31 “But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Every day for me is a step of faith. There are days that faith comes easy, and days that faith comes hard. When I took the leap of faith to speak, write, and commit myself to the service of the Lord, I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but knowing it, and living it is two entirely different things. I still believe that God called me, even more so that Satan continually buffets me with discouragement and doubt.
When Christ called for Peter to step out onto the water, it was an exciting time. The whole crew had just discovered Christ could walk on water! It’s pretty amazing when we see someone step out and do something new. I’m the first one to say “I want to do that!” Then I step out and think “Okay now what?” For Peter the thought of walking on the water he so loved as a fisherman, had to be excitement times ten! “Okay now what?” He was out there, and although it appeared to be easy, it wasn’t. The water moved, it was a storm for Pete’s sake. The wind didn’t cease until they were back in the boat.
Every time I attempt to do anything for God I feel the breeze start blowing and a storm brewing in my life. Stepping out for Jesus isn’t easy. Satan’s know where to throw the punch to cast fear and doubt about your decision.
A preacher friend once preached a sermon in our church on the scripture 1 Peter 5:7
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you”. He used a fishing pole as an illustration of casting (throwing out) your cares to Jesus. Peter did just that when he stepped out. But it only took a minute on the rocky water, before he’s eyes were off Jesus and on the storm.
So what’s the answer? The one we’ve all likely heard every Preacher say in regards to this scripture. “Keep your eyes on Jesus.”
Jesus caught Peter even though he lacked faith. He didn’t let him perish. After Jesus and Peter got back in the boat, the storm ceased and the disciples worshiped Him. They said “Of a truth thou art the Son of God.” (vs. 33)
Lately, I’ve gone through several storms. Just small storms, the kind that almost have you thinking, “God’s got so much more to deal with, He doesn’t need me whining about this.”
Large or small, anything that takes my eyes off Jesus and the work that I have been called to do is a serious storm. Serious from the stand point that if my eyes are not on Him for guidance, then those that I am to connect with along the path are in jeopardy. If I’ve got my head down in discouragement, I’ve lost sight of the people that I am to minister to.
I feel the wind blowing. But because I took the time get in His Word, spend time with His people, and talk to you it’s not nearly as gusty! I pray likewise for you today.

Thank you for sharing with us again today Shari! I appreciate you taking on the task of brewing up a big pot of God’s message for myself and all the Dewey’s Daily Cup Family!
I know that speaking about God’s power and grace gives me great energy to continue in His work each day. Indeed, we may not feel like Warriors for Christ every moment of our day, for disappointment and fear can drag us backwards at times. But just as Shari’s message tells us, we only need to set our eyes upon our Lord and Savior to feel His powerful hand holding us safe and leading us onwards and upwards!
Have a blessed weekend everyone!
