Smoke in ABQ metro area from Arizona wildfire. Children, elderly, those with breathing conditions should stay indoors close windows.
Note;I am getting calls of smoke in the Albuquerque area, the smoke is strong enough to set off asthma attacks in some that I have spoken with. State forestry officials say smoke from a fire burning in Arizona is blowing into the Albuquerque metro area.
The Wallow fire is forcing the Arizona Department of Transportation to shut down an eastern Arizona highway. U.S. 191 is now closed between Alpine and the Strayhorse Campground (mileposts 220-253).
Alpine is about 25 miles south of Eager, on the east side of Arizona. The Wallow fire started a few days ago and is burning approximately 12 miles southwest of Alpine.
The smoke has cleared this morning for the most part in the Duke City area.

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” Mark 14:38, NIV
“Watch.” . . . Keep your eyes open. When you see sin coming, duck . . . When you sense temptation, go the other way . . .
“Pray.” . . . What prayer does is invite God to walk the shadowy pathways of life with us . . . guarding our backside from the poison darts of the devil.
“Watch and pray.” Good advice. Let’s take it.
The Times They Have A-Chang-ed

The other day I was watching “Leave It To Beaver” with my ten-year-old son. The Beaver’s predicament in this episode was he’d lost the $1.50 his father gave him for a haircut, and he was afraid to tell his parents. His brother, Wally, stepped in to help, giving the Beaver a haircut to comic results. When the show broke for a commercial, the advertisement was about Fran Drescher’s new sit-com, “Happily Divorced.” Paralleling her real life, Fran plays a woman who discovers her husband is gay, and so she navigates “the new parameters of their relationship while re-entering the dating pool”. Bob Dylan, the poet-laureate of the Beaver’s generation (Wally was heading to college in 1963), sang, “The Times They Are a-Changin’”. The truth is, today the times have changed. Steve Adams, the children’s pastor at Saddleback, says kids today fight a battle significantly different from the one their parents fought. For instance, he says recent research reveals, of the top 100 Internet searches by kids 7-to-18-years-old, pornography is ranked number four. If Wally and the Beaver had gone looking for porn, they might have been able to sneak a peak at Playboy, which in 1960 published pictures that were only slightly more explicit than today’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. The times they have a-chang-ed. Steve suggests parents pray a prayer of anointing over their children, strengthening for the battle they face. It is a simple prayer, one you can pray today: “God, I love this child I and I know you have a purpose for (his or her) life. I pray today that you will bless (him or her). Pour your blessings out on (child’s name) today. Amen.” It is a simple prayer, but there is power in that. Steve says your kids need this blessing. They need such an anointing from the Holy One in order to face the challenges and temptations of this age. Pray this prayer today. |

A Community Before Christ
One dark night outside a small town in Minnesota , a fire started inside the local chemical plant and in a blink of an eye it exploded into massive flames. The alarm went out to all the fire departments for miles around.
When the volunteer fire fighters appeared on the scene, the chemical company president rushed to the fire chief and said, “All our secret formulas are in the vault in the center of the plant. They must be saved. I will give $50,000 to the fire department that brings them out intact.”
But the roaring flames held the firefighters off.
Soon more fire departments had to be called in as the situation became desperate. As the firemen arrived, the president shouted out that the offer was now $100,000 to the fire department who could bring out the company’s secret files.
From the distance, a lone siren was heard as another fire truck came into sight. It was the nearby Norwegian rural township volunteer fire company composed mainly of Norwegians over the age of 65. To everyone’s amazement, that little run-down fire engine roared right past all the newer sleek engines that were parked outside the plant.
Without even slowing down it drove straight into the middle of the inferno. Outside, the other firemen watched as the Norwegian old timers jumped off right in the middle of the fire fought it back on all sides. It was a performance and effort never seen before.
Within a short time, the Norske old timers had extinguished the fire and had saved the secret formulas. The grateful chemical company president announced that for such a superhuman feat he was upping the reward to $200,000, and walked over to personally thank each of the brave fire fighters.
The local TV news reporter rushed in to capture the event on film, asking their chief, “What are you going to do with all that money?”
“Vell,” said Ole Larsen, the 70-year-old fire chief, “Da first thing ve gonna do is fix da brakes on dat darn truck!”
