Dear KKIM/KARS Family,
May God be with you and yours!
Let us be BOLD in our faith in JESUS!
Martha, the dead man’s sister, told Him, “Lord, he already stinks. It’s been four days.”
Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”
John 11: 38-40
I am praying that you had a good Mothers Day! We talked about Mothers Day on NM New and Views on Friday. We prayed for those that would have a tough day because of Death, Divorce, Separation, past hurts.etc…….
God can restore…..Our God is one of Miracles!
Nic Hutchins of Las Cruces on a longtime friend of this Ministry was on with us and shared his testimony about his relationships with his Mom. 12 years ago Nic came to Christ and then his relationship with his Mother was restored!!! Nic gave his life to Christ at that time, he had lost much…..but then came to Christ…..Nic’s story is another miracle in Jesus! Our God lifts us up from the pit of Hell and restores our Life in Him.
The Lord had me call Nic (I prayed over my list of friends)so many could hear his story of restoration. Many need to hear this story. Nic had turned the wrong way in his life, but found the way back to our Lord. AMEN!
ps……we must even pray over a phone list…..who would Jesus want you to call today?
Do not do anything, before you pray about it……and then listen for the Lord……..
I also had Pastor Steve Smothermon on and we talked about Mother’s Day and wanted to wake up the Body of Christ on abortion……we asked the question what would happen if your Mother would have aborted you??? Yes you and me! I so much appreciate Pastor Steve and his BOLDNESS for JESUS!
Pastor Steve is now on KKIM weekdays at 9am, Saturdays at 7am, so much good feedback on having Pastor Steve with us daily! PRAISE GOD!!!! We need more men of God like Pastor Steve!!!!!!
More men like Nic, who are BOLD enough to tell their story of restoration!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!!
FOR GOD’s GLORY ALONE!!!!
I have to share the following story from years and years ago (40?) in my hometown of Windom, Minn. It is on a subject that I have been studying, (Being Bold, and Discipline) so Randy Thom shares this Andy Griffith in Mayberry type story, that is true about my Dad and Randy and some kids from Windom….read this story.
back in the day, in little ol windom,, in our hood, although back in that day, we didnt call it the hood.. Anyways, we had a gang, but back in that day, we didnt call it a gang, we called it being friends. Our neighborhood had many kids all in the same grades, or close and we all played together alot. Well, one night we out carossing and it was early fall. Apple trees were very abundant and baseball were scare in those days. so being boys, and boys being boys, we toe ok aim on a school bus coming down the road. bang bang bang bang we all hit the target like major league pitchers With a squeal of the brakes the bus came to a halt and out of the bus came Dewey Moedes Dad.. Ever seen cattle run from a rattle snake, they scatter and go fast. That would be kinda how it looked as us 5 boys took off a running.. River Road is so named as there is a river that runs parallel to it.. I was the kinda fat boy of our gang, we had some in the gang who ran like rabbits.. they ran behind the nearest house and towards the river,, well they ran left and me trailing behind thought they ran right. so as I approached the river I dove as I knew my buddies did, cause they had told me bout this fantastic hiding spot in the reeds by the river. Remember they went left and I went right . I will never forget the sound of the water and mud splashing up in my face.. Hmm I thought this was supposed to be dry.. The water was ice cold, the mud tasted icky and there behind me was Deweys Dad trying to stifle a laugh as he helped pull me out of ,the river. You see when my buddies went left they knew where it was dry, my going to the right sealed my fate and my meeting the river and mud. Anyway’s Deweys Dad loaded me into the bus and we went to Jimmys house to await for my buddies to show up. They all showed up, seen my muddy wet self and broke out laughing, cause the had heard the big splash of my fat self diving into the river. Deweys Dad was pretty stern but very loving in explaining how dangerous our actions were and then he encouraged us to find better use of our energy. He never turned us in to the cops, but he did remind me many times of how funny he thought it was as he helped me up that river bank. Deweys Father was a great Father to not only his family but to all the kids growing up in Windom. Now you know a story of the night we decided to throw apples at the school bus.
I just rolled with laughter when I read this story! That is how my Dad was, stern but fair, he taught us right from wrong…..Everybody back home respected my Dad, Fmr US Marine WWII, Assn’t Fire Chief, Head Usher at Church, Transportation Dir. for the Schools. You always knew where you stood with Dad, but he did what he did in love, but he was not afraid to give it to you straight! Praise God we had many men and women like Dad in Windom growing up! Role Models! But now days it seems someone who stands strong and disciplines is called many times out of line, or to tough! Or you do not have the right to discipline my child.
We hesitate to get involved in situations, we get apprehensive…..we become protective of our self interests because we do not want to get in trouble with anyone, accused of being aggressive.
This is what our society has created. There is no, normal when it comes to what is expected of us in discipline or behavior, there are so many definitions out there in this world what is normal behavior and what is not accepted.
Much confusion.
I look back at my Dad and the other role models I have had over the years they were not afraid to give it to you straight. They did not let Lawyers or human resources run their life. Thank goodness I grew up without Lawyers and Human resources running things!!!!
Human Resources has destroyed the American work place!!! It has taken Godly common sense out of our world!
I mentioned that I am studying Boldness in the Church. I am reading and studying R.A. Torrey on prayer…..and the period in the United States 1850-1860……great revival in America……
When you get time today google R.A. Torrey and learn from this Godly man…….
These Preachers were Bold in Jesus Christ………What would happen if Torrey and many like him in that day were alive and Preaching Revival in the United States today and saying things like this………
Torrey was bold and piercing in his preaching, applying the Word of God like a hammer until it broke all resistance.
In one meeting, Torrey so provoked a man that he stood up and shouted at Torrey, “I am not a Christian, but I am moral, upright, honorable, and blameless; and I would like to know what you have against me!”
Torrey, as always, was ready for the occasion; looking straight at the man and pointing his finger at him, he said, “I charge you, Sir, with high treason against Heaven’s King!”
Seems now days when someone is bold in Christ they call him a nut case and he is just to bold etc………you cant say this and that in today’s society, is what many say……..
We will not be an effective Body of Christ until we act more BOLDLY in JESUS!
I do not think the Church is BOLD enough in Jesus. I have been called by God to study this history of the Church when many gathered around the United States in major Cities to pray daily.
We must not be afraid to say what God has put on our lips……..when we are called by God we must follow Him…….
Hear is the story of a man who was called and did what God called him to do…….watched the movie the other night….he was not afraid to speak, like my Dad, like Torrey………Where are the men that are listening to the Lord, and are BOLD enough to carry out the mission the Lord has given them? HIS WILL, not our’s……..First we have to have a personal relationship with the Lord…..like Angus Buchan……..This man was also BOLD in JESUS!
Angus Buchan – Faith Like Potatoes
‘Faith Like Potatoes’ is certainly one of the best faith-building books ever written. It targets people from all age groups, social groups, backgrounds and cultures. It has already been responsible for countless people committing their lives to the Lord, and those who have been Christians for many years are challenged to increase their faith. It is the story of a humble farmer, our very own Angus Buchan. A story so dynamic and powerful that it has sold more than 25 000 copies todate and has just been updated and relaunched. Furthermore it has just been made into a big screen movie. This will be released in October.
What makes Angus’ story such an inspiration? Quite simply, it makes you consider your own life. It inspires you to be a better person, to believe more, to have unwavering faith in the power of God. Many readers have travelled from all over the world to Angus’ farm to meet him. One such a person, David Harper, a farmer from Worcestershire in England, read the book on a plane to Uganda. When he finished the book, he changed his flight home to stop over in Kwa-Zulu Natal to meet with Angus. He is now making the same massive impact in England among the farmers and has arranged various campaigns in Europe where Angus has preached.
The title ‘Faith Like Potatoes’ came from a famous American lecturer who used to tell his students that they needed faith like potatoes. He meant that their faith needed to have flesh and needed substance. As Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not yet seen.” Angus Buchan not only had faith like potatoes, he had faith for potatoes as well.
Angus, not a university graduate, public speaker or celebrity, but a farmer, managed to gather a crowd of 35 000 people into a stadium in Durban one year to hear him speak and to join in prayer for rain. The El Nino drought of the late nineties had resulted in complete devastation for local farmers, coupled with that they were worn out from having to deal with violence on a daily basis. Farm murders had become common place and people were afraid for their lives. They were desperate and needed a miracle. Angus looked at the mix of black and white faces in the crowd, then uttered: “To hell with El Nino! We are going to plant this year! And we are going to plant potatoes.”
Scientists had warned the farmers not to plant that season unless they had irrigation and Angus knew very well that he didn’t have irrigation.Planting potatoes would be a massive risk. Traditionally he was a maize and cattle farmer.Nevertheless he prayed and prayed and He knew that the Lord wanted him to plant potatoes. He went back to his farm, hired two extra farms and planted potatoes in the dust. If the crop failed he would have lost everything that he had.
On the back of the first edition of ‘Faith like Potatoes’ is a quote that reads: “The condition for a miracle is difficulty, however the condition for a great miracle is not difficulty, but impossibility.”
Angus clearly expected a miracle.
Angus is from Scottish decent and is by nature a very fiery character. Before he came to know Jesus, he was very aggressive and tried to do everything himself. This caused him to clash often with his farm workers, especially Simeon Benghu, his foreman. What made matters worse was the fact that he had been forced to sell his farm in Zambia at a ridiculously low price and when he got to South Africa he had very little money to buy a farm. They eventually purchased a farm without a house and had to live in a caravan for several months. Jill was 6 months pregnant and they already had three other young children. In addition to the cramped living quarters, there was no running water on the farm.
The farm workers at Shalom soon named Angus, ‘Nkosaan Italiaan’, because they said he looked and behaved like a mad Italian. They used to laugh and mock Angus, saying that they were convinced he would leave the farm in a couple of months. That was in 1978. Now, nearly 30 years later, the Buchans still farm at Shalom.
The change in Angus came when he gave his life, his heart, his family and his farm to Jesus during a church service at the Greytown Methodist Church. He decided to take God at His Word and to trust Him in everything. Soon, with the same fiery passion with which he farmed, Angus began to tell people just how God had changed his life. This new faith in Jesus did not make life any easier, but it did give him peace beyond understanding and it assisted him to make sense of life.
What is very striking in the story is the contrast between the miracles and the hardships that seemed to happen. The first miracle came soon after his conversion when he, Simeon and the workers were burning some brush wood on the farm. A gust of wind suddenly blew the flames into the Lion Match Plantation and Angus knew that he could be taken to court if he caused a fire that burnt down someone else’s plantation. He called Simeon over and told him that they needed to pray for rain. Simeon said that it was the dry season and there are no clouds around. Angus went ahead and simply asked for rain. Within an hour it started to rain and it killed the fire!
When the Lord called Angus to start preaching and to share the Gospel, Angus acted in obedience and soon he started getting calls from all over South Africa inviting him to preach to farmers. His faith grew with every campaign and with every miracle that he experienced.
Then, just as you read about the miracles and think that nothing could go wrong in the Buchans’ lives, a tragic accident on the farm shook their family. This was an incredibly tough time for everyone at Shalom, but God is always faithful in bringing His peace in times of need. Even at the lowest point in his life, Angus remained faithful to the Lord.
A wonderful part of the story is the fact that today Angus and Simeon Benghu are real brothers in Christ. After 25 years Simeon is still Angus’s foreman and as Angus says: “His children are mine and my children are his.”
Angus and Jill soon decided that their faith needed to have feet, and when they discovered the needs in their community, they opened their farm to 24 Zulu orphans. These children had no parents or homes so Angus and Jill decided to raise them as their own. Today two of Angus’ daughters, Robyn and Jilly, help to run the children’s home. His children are just as dedicated as he is, and his two sons, Andrew and Fergus run the farm while Angus preaches away from home almost every weekend.
‘Faith like Potatoes’ is a life-changing story. Local film maker, Frans Cronje, was so deeply moved by the book that he was inspired to produce a feature film with the same name. It will be released in cinemas in October and on DVD in December. This film is set to be one of the most powerful evangelistic films ever produced. It is envisaged that every church and Christian home would own a copy. It is right up there with the classics like “The Cross and the Switchblade.”
The movie was shot in Greytown, and at Shalom, the farm owned by Angus and Jill. By shooting on location where many of the events portrayed actually occurred, an unparalled authenticity has been brought into the movie.
A share of the profits from this movie will be set aside for Angus Buchan’s work, part of which is the Shalom Children’s Home. The children’s home, and many of the children who live there, are also featured in the film.
Director, Regardt van den Bergh, summed it up perfectly when he said, “Our film stays truthful to the heart of Angus and Jill’s story and I believe God, through this film, will touch your heart as He did theirs.”
The movie is Faith like Potatoes………watch it please.
This is very timely to watch the movie because of the drought we are having here in New Mexico and Texas……….
KKIM/KARS Newsman Frank Haley has this report……..

Meanwhile, the 28,000-acre Miller Fire continued to burn in a
remote area of the Gila Wilderness and prompted a voluntary evacuation
of Gila Hot Springs on Sunday because of the fire’s potential to
approach homes.
A third fire, the Crooked Creek Complex Fire near Hope, has
burned about 15,000 acres and continues to give crews a tough time
because of steep and rugged terrain.
The drought has turned severe here. Please pray for us and also for the parts of the United States that are flooding, including the Memphis, Tenn area that is the home of our Dear friends IRN/USA Radio Network.
Let us be in prayer………..
To wrap this up today let me share with you this note from Pastor Leonard Navarre from Valley View Christian Church in Edgewood, NM where they help their annual Mothers Day Oil Change for single Mom’s………
Super great Mother’s Day Oil change…did 58 cars, will pay for 3 windshields, replaced 4 batteries, 1 set of brakes and 1 set of tires. All 58 got oil changes and 36 item inspection of their cars. Our wonderful VVCC folks provided all the oil, East Mountain Car and RV repair paid for all the filters and Napa and Autozone gave us discounts on the filters. It was a super day.
The Lord miraculously provided healing to my voice so that I was able to teach Thursday night Men’s Bible and preach 4 times over the weekend. After Sat pm service I was so raspy that I thought there was no way, but Sunday morning my voice was the strongest it has been all week. God was so wonderful. For God’s Glory Alone!
Thanks for sharing Leonard……..Valley View continues to amaze me in their service to God’s people…….
Let us keep praying for each other and our families………
In the Love of Christ, Dewey Sharon and family
