2 Timothy 1:5 ESV I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
Sons Should Follow their Mother’s Teaching
My son, keep your father’s commandment, and forsake not your mother’s teaching. Bind them on your heart always; tie them around your neck. When you walk, they will lead you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you awake, they will talk with you. (Proverbs 6:20-22 ESV)
PRAISE GOD for our Mother’s……….Oh my LORD Jesus, thank you thank you!
Dewey, I would greatly appreciate it if everyone would pray for a friend of mine, Tom. He had hip replacement surgery and right now is having a heart attack. Prayers also for his wife, Barb.
Doris Husted
We are praying Doris for Tom and Barb, please keep us posted.
We are also praying for Cody Harrington, the daughter of Sandy Harrington of KKIM/KARS…..Cody is traveling in Europe now, keep her in your prayers.
What a wonderful day in our Lord yesterday for National Day of Prayer! WOW! The event at Cross of Hope was such a blessing! We thank Pastor Dale Bauer and Kay Hendrickson for having us! Myself and Ryan Freeman really were blessed.
We pray that you were able to attend a National day of Prayer event………Last night on NM News and Views we had Pastor Glenn Strock on with us reporting live from Washington D.C.. Glenn is of the Cowboy Church in the Pecos Valley here in New Mexico. Glenn found that the most rewarding part of the National Day of Prayer was when they were traveling yesterday going through the small towns in America, people had flags out and were gathered at there local Church, Glenn said it was quite a site!
Small Town America, I find has such a love for Jesus!!!!!!!!
We also had NM State Senator Sander Rue with us on NM News and Views, he like me, spoke at the Cross of Hope event. Sander shared that there is a change ongoing in New Mexico Politics, where the light is shining now with the new administration. Sander reviewed with us that there was no “DARK” legislation, unGodly stuff that was being pushed by our Gov this past Legislative session like during the Richardson Administration. We are very thankful for that.
We are also very thankful that there was a National day of Prayer event inside the Roundhouse again this year. For those of you out of state, the Roundhouse is our State Capitol.
I believe that with the citizens in New Mexico coming together in prayer inside the Roundhouse during National Day of Prayer and during the Legislative session……..it has blessed this state. God’s people coming together in prayer, being the Salt and Light where the state law makers meet.
Yesterday during my presentation on Prayer…I touched on the study we have done here at the CUP, on what may hinder our prayers from being answered. It is a study that was introduced to me by Pastor Leonard Navarre.
Now Leonard has me studying it further in a book by R.A. Torrey, The Power of Prayer and the Prayer of Power…….
Let me share with you who R.A. Torrey is……….
Torrey was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, on 28 January 1856. He graduated from Yale University in 1875 and Yale Divinity School in 1878. Following graduation, Torrey became a Congregational minister in Garrettsville, Ohio, in 1878, marrying Clara Smith there in October 1879. From 1881 to 1893, the Torreys had five children.
After further studies of theology at Leipzig University and Erlangen University in 1882–1883, Torrey joined Dwight L. Moody in his evangelistic work in Chicago in 1889, and became superintendent of the Bible Institute of the Chicago Evangelization Society (now Moody Bible Institute). Five years later, he became pastor of the Chicago Avenue Church (now The Moody Church) in 1894.
In 1898, Torrey served as a chaplain with the YMCA at Camp Chicamauga during the Spanish-American War. Later, during World War I, he performed similar service at Camp Bowie (a POW camp in Texas) and Camp Kearny.
In 1902–1903, he preached in nearly every part of the English-speaking world and with song leader Charles McCallon Alexander conducted revival services in Great Britain from 1903 to 1905. During this period, he also visited China, Japan, Australia, and India. Torrey conducted a similar campaign in American and Canadian cities in 1906–1907. Throughout these campaigns, Torrey utilized a meeting style that he borrowed from Moody’s campaigns of the 1870s.
On June 20, 1907, he was honored with a doctorate degree from Wheaton College. In 1912, he served as Dean of Bible Institute of Los Angeles (now Biola University) and, in 1915, pastor of the Church of the Open Door, Los Angeles.
His last evangelistic meeting was in Florida in 1927. Future planned meetings were canceled because of his failing health. He died at home in Asheville, North Carolina, on October 26, 1928, having preached the world over and having left a legacy of over forty books. Torrey Auditorium, for decades the main auditorium at Moody Bible Institute, was named in his honor.
Oh Lord, we thank you for people like R.A. Torrey who leave behind such a Godly legacy!
The Lord really put it on my heart yesterday and today to share why our prayers may be hindered…….
Torrey writes…….
One of the most definite and clearest descriptions found in the Bible of whose prayers God will answer is in 1 John 3:22
“And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him”
John is saying he never asked one single thing of God that God did not give him. How many of us could say, “Whatsoever I ask of God I get?” No doubt, many of us could say, “Many of the things I ask God for I get.” Others could say, “Some of the things I ask God for I get.”
Whenever you find the word because in the Bible, or wherefore, or therefore, you should take careful notice and find out what they are there for. John is telling us the reason God gave him whatever he asked for is that he and others that he includes himself in the word “we” keep his commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. The description of whose prayers God always answers are in two parts.
(WOW! I am so blessed to be studying this…I pray that you are as blessed as I am this morning……we must live by the 10 Commandments…..we must live CLEAN lives before our Lord)
The first part of the description is, “We keep his commandments.” God hears the prayers of those who “keep his commandments,” that is, those who study His word each day to find out what His will is, and when they discover what His will is, they do it every time they find it. God demands reciprocity: He demands that we listen to His Word before He listens to our prayer.
If we have a sharp ear for God’s commandments, God will have a sharp ear for our petitions, but if we turn a deaf ear to one of God’s commandments, God will turn a deaf ear to everyone of our petitions. If we do the things that God tells us to do, then God will do the things we ask Him to do.
However, if we do not pay attention to God’s Word, God will pay no attention to our prayers.
To wrap it up in a single sentence: If we want God to answer our prayers, we must study God’s Word diligently each day to find out what His will is, and do that will every time we find it.
WOW! Great…..Great……
Also from our previous posting read these verses on why our prayers may be hindered…….
James 4:1, 2, 3 Deu 1:43 45
Psalm 66:18, Proverbs 1:28, 29, Proverbs 21:13 Proverbs 28:9
We must remember when we are in the Will of God, as we have said many times here at the CUP, God promises to protect us and guide us…….BUT, when we are out of the Will of God, we will wither…….it is simple as that.
To hear God’s Will for yourself…you must have a close personal relationship with Him.
That comes in part from reading God’s Word everyday and having it absorbed into your heart, soul and mind.
America is withering because it is out of the Will of God. Look around us as you see it in plain site.
However, God is still giving us an opportunity to repent as a Country and come back to His way….
How can we feel we are in the Will of the Almighty when we kill His babies?
I know that is a heavy thought…….not a popular message talking about Abortion, many in the Church take a blind eye to this issue………I will not……..
With Mother’s Day this Sunday, how can we take a blind eye to Abortion? Can you even imagine if your Mother would had decided to Abort you?
I am so thankful for My Mom Ruth Irene Caraway! For my Grandma’s Lena Caraway and Dena Moede! For my wife Sharon!
I thought this writer’s tribute was so AWESOME in our LORD………
I have always wondered and overwhelmed on comprehending the awesome creation of God on how a child is born in to this world. Our Mother’s are people to be honored whom God used as the foundation for our life where we land inside the world as a tiny, helpless being, but our mothers had high hopes on us, they believed on us even when they saw how fragile we are when we are born. It’s Nothing short of a miracle!
“As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you” Isaiah 66:13
Most of you could relate your own mothers with what I am writing in the following section, but I want to spend some time to remember my mother Mrs. Grace Daniel who is no more with us today, But she left a Legacy which I know will impact many lives through all those (Yes I lived with a Legend for 28 years) who have been transformed with her message of Hope and Love.
1. My first friend – She was my first friend when I did not know anyone in the world, Gave a glimpse of what true friendship means.
2. My First Teacher – She taught me not with mere words but with her Life the tough lessons no one can teach in this world.
3. Showed unconditional Love – Never did she do anything to me in thinking that she can get some returns, To be frank I have not repaid for her Love (Do you think can we repay?), but have promised God that I will follow her model life.
4. She always Trusted – First person to Trust me even after I failed her many times.
5. Life of Hope – She never withhold the message of Jesus which changed her life radically and shared the message of Hope even during her worst days while fighting Cancer.
6. Learned Humility: She surprised me though she has enormous knowledge of experience, she is so humble to learn from me or any one. Which made her dynamic and in touch with young people.
She is a Comforter: We all know that when we are down or ill we need our mother’s lap.
7. Left a Legacy: I learned a powerful truth by her life; God can use imperfect vessels to model our life to fulfill his purpose in our lives.
I learnt from an article that most of the thing needed for life for Children is learnt when they are young in the age group 1-5 years. Dear MOM’s God has given you a wonderful privilege to impart good and godly things in to your children; I humbly encourage you to continue your sacrificial love. One he sees from above will richly bless you with his heavenly grace.
My dear friends, you and I may be very busy in our life today, please take a moment of gratitude and look back and tell them how much you love them and honor them.
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you” – Exodus 20:12
God gave this command as one of the Ten Commandments to follow to walk in his righteousness (right standing with God). This word is repeated 8 times in the Bible, we know following his command brings us blessings in our life.
I thank all you MOM’s and appreciate and give honor you deserve. God Bless You!
