(Santa Fe, NM) — A Santa Fe man accused of vehicular homicide in
the 2009 deaths of four teens is a free man today. A jury found Scott
Owens not guilty yesterday on all charges related to the fatal crash.
Owens has previously admitted he was drunk when he crashed into the
car full of teens. Owens’s lawyer argued his intoxication was
irrelevant because the crash happened when the sober teenage driver
swerved into his lane.
I am outraged that once again here in New Mexico a drunk is set free to drive drunk and kill again. Owens, who has been behind bars since the crash occurred did not face a separate DWI charge in the case.
