Dear family of our Lord Jesus Christ and faithful Daily Cup readers,
Good day to you all! Thank you for joining us here on the “Cup.” I’m Shonda Savage an inspirational writer at FGGAM.org and I’m filling in for Dewey today.
We thank God for what HE is doing and working through this ministry and we thank you, our faithful readers and supporters of the ministry for taking part of what God is doing here at FGGAM.
This week the Lord has been stirring up my spirit. Dewey’s words in Monday’s Daily Cup really spoke to me. Dewey wrote:
“I am of the belief that I cannot conform God’s Ways and Word to my lifestyle, I have to conform my lifestyle to God and His Word.”
Then he went on to explain how Americans in general have turned the preaching the Word of God into “hate speech.”

Then I saw a Facebook post linked to an article published by WND Faith about Christine Weick, the woman who stood up and boldly declared Jesus as Lord in the interfaith prayer service in Washington D.C.’s National Cathedral on Friday, November 14.
One woman stood up for Jesus! (Read more about that here: Boldness or Foolishness)
Where are the rest of us?
We’re hiding in our homes. Hiding in our churches. Hiding. Incognito believers. I’m just as guilty. I read an article announcing that the Muslims would be praying in a Christian church. What did I do? Merely make flippant remarks along with others, such as:
- “What a shame.”
- “Oh come Lord Jesus.”
- “Well the end of America is near.”
Why are we as believers lying down and letting it happen? Why aren’t we boldly declaring Jesus in our nation? Are we afraid?
Jesus said, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28 NIV).
While reading in Acts, I came across the passage in chapter 9 about Saul’s conversion. Each time I’ve read this passage in the past, I focused on what took place in Saul’s life. But as I read it this time a man called Ananias stood out to me.
After Saul experienced his Jesus encounter on the road to Damascus and lost his sight, Ananias was instructed by God to go to Saul and pray for him. Apparently, Saul’s reputation for harming believers by imprisoning them and even stoning them to death had spread quickly. Ananias told the Lord he was afraid because Saul had authority from the chief priests to arrest anyone who called on the name of Jesus.
But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.” (Acts 9:15-16 NIV)
What did Ananias do? Did he make a list excuses to God? Did he say things like we say. . .
- “Oh that’s too bad.”
- “Perhaps he had it coming.”
Here’s what Scripture records Ananias did:
Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 9:17 NIV)
Ananias went. Do you think he went afraid of what Saul could do to him? I think so. But I also think Ananias had the fear of the Lord on him, so he followed God’s instruction instead of succumbing to his fears.
Brothers and sisters, Christine Weick testified that she felt led by the Spirit to speak out at the National Cathedral and she went afraid. Now the testimony of Jesus through one bold woman is being spread around the world on the Internet.
We need to go out boldly, in spite of apprehensions, and declare God’s Word.
It’s not in our power. It’s God’s power. God’s Word will accomplish what He sent it to do.
“so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11 NIV)
God’s Word is alive and powerful.
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12 NIV)
My friends, I write this as much for me as I do for you. We need to move forward in the power and authority of God’s Word. We do not have power in our own strength, but in Christ.
I close with this prayer from Ephesians:
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” (Ephesians 1:17-23 NIV)
We don’t have power in our own accord to change people. God’s Truth changes people and they need to hear the Truth–through us. Go tell someone Jesus loves them today.
