Word for the Week
Dear Ambassadors,
I will continue this week with how we can Ambassadors for Christ (in the workplace) in 2 Corinthians 5:20. Since actions often speak louder than words, what else can we do to be Ambassadors?
I’ll start with Ephesians 14:19 – “Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify (build up) another.” Yes, you might say, I know that the Word tells me to do this, but you don’t understand what I have to deal with at work! A new person was hired to join the team and they are “clueless” about what to do. No one has officially asked me to train them but this person is constantly coming to me with questions and often they are the same questions I answered last week. I can’t keep doing this. I have work to do! I said something in anger at the end of the day on Friday and I could tell it was hurtful. But no one understands what I have to put up with. I now have to face this person on Monday.
Does this sound familiar or something like it? How can we make for peace and edify others when the work relationship is strained or difficult? It does not mean we have to be best buddies to that person. Let’s take one step back to the Gospel. Christ’s death and resurrection did many things for us. One thing He did was to forgive us of our sins. Can we not do the same?
So here are some good words from the Scripture to guide us this week in making peace and edifying others. Ephesians 4:29 & 32 say, “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification (building up), that it might impart grace to the hearers… And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” If you are in strife at work, meditate on these Scriptures as well as on 2 Timothy 2:23-25. May peace return to the relationship and ways are found to edify others.
