Let us learn today from Barnabas……..as you drink this CUP that is my prayer……….

Grieving:

After we moved here to New Mexico in August of 1995…….Dad and Mom had just passed on at the young age of 64. I was suffering from tremendous grief when we moved.

Dad and Mom were my hero’s. Dad passed on 19 years ago on Easter Sunday April 19, 1992 at 3am in the morning of a sudden heart attack the week he retired. That would be 19 years ago tomorrow.

Mom was never the same after Dad passed on, they called her Dad’s shadow, wherever Wally was, Ruth was. Mom came down with cancer and passed away Jan 9th 1995.

We kids were in shock having losing Mom and Dad so suddenly and close together at a young age.

After we got to Albuquerque I started to going to a class put on by the Catholic Church to teach grieving classes.

It helped me also, since I was still grieving, (I don’t know if we ever stop grieving to some extent)

I had seen what my Mom had gone through when Dad had passed on. It broke her heart, she lost her best friend of 49 years. She would wear Dad’s pajama’s to try and sleep better, the smell of Dad helped her.

We did not get to say good-bye to Dad as he had a sudden heart attack, can you imagine how my brother Daryl felt giving Dad CPR on our living room floor? I don’t think Daryl has ever recovered from that.

We never know what people have been through that has marked them for life. That is why we have to be careful on judging others.

Dad had just been to the Hospital that night complaining of pain, they told him to go home and take something for his indigestion….then at 3am he had is heart attack.

Daryl was on his way to see us in Indiana driving his motorcycle across Iowa, when the Lord told him to get back to Mom and Dad’s……he turned his motorcycle around and got their just in time to be with Mom when Dad had his heart attack.

Daryl listened to the Holy Spirit. He was their to comfort Mom in Dad’s passing.

Then Mom shortly thereafter, about 3 months, ended up in the Hospital and her health was never the same……..I think Mom passed of a broken heart.

All of us kid’s myself, Dave, Deb, Daryl all grieved differently.

Anger, sadness, leave me alone, withdrawal, was all part of it.

The average grieving process takes 5 years………but for some (I believe many) it never goes away completely for those you love so…….Everyone grieves differently.

I now carry the Testimony of my Dad and Mom to encourage others and live the life of a servant, as that is what my Mom and Dad did with their lives….they spent it all serving the people around Windom, Minn. Dad as head Usher at Church, Transportation Dir. of the School’s and Assn’t Fire Chief, Dad also served in WWII as a Sgt. in the Marines. For Dad’s funeral they shut the Town down. Mom spent her life supporting Dad in his duties, she was his number one assistant and also as a Cook at the School, full house at her funeral also. And as you know Uncle Joe was so impactful in my life.

My folks and Uncle Joe lived their life so that even at their funeral the undertaker cried!

I have been waking up around 3am…(I usually get up at 4:30am)..a few days before Uncle Joe passed on, the Holy Spirit  whispered to me Joe would soon be going home……and since then I have been waking up around 3am…………Mary Ann, Uncle Joe’s daughter said the reason you are waking up at 3am is that is when your dad passed on about this time of year, 3am……….And now since I recognized that I slept like a baby last night, best sleep in months!

That is a huge part of the grieving process, is recognizing it! Recognizing what is going on around you.

And others, giving you space…….time……and words of encouragement.

I still grieve for Mom and Dad and now also Uncle Joe., but I don’t know if grieving is the proper term, it’s more like you miss them and carry on their heritage, and at the same time wonder what has happened to the world…..Uncle Joe said at the end the only thing that scared him about leaving was, “I am so scared for you kid’s on leaving you behind in this crazy world.”

Amen to that Joe!

As I close on this……

In this crazy world……..we must be the Salt and Light

We also must give people time to grieve……..I don’t think we as a whole give people time to grieve, or mourn, or whatever you want to call it.

I know I have been offended, or my feelings hurt by people not being sensitive to my loss.

I see it all the time now in all different ways……..The world is moving so fast, people are moving so fast, people need time to grieve.

I don’t know if people even send sympathy cards anymore?

Expressing our sorrow to each other is healthy, shedding tears is very healthy, talking is very healthy.

We have people walking around in this world full of grief, that they have never been able to let go of.

They have not processed it, know one has taken the time to help them.

Grief not processed can turn into anger and even violence.

Grieving covers the loss of a job, loss of health, loss of a marriage, loss of a best friend, etc………

I am overwhelmed at this point in my life with all the grieving going on around me and spending the proper amount of time with hurting folks.

Look around you this day……….take a good look…………who needs your encouragement?

I also believe in my heart the Church does not Preach on Death enough at all……..I do not call it death anymore..it is a passing to eternal life with our Father……..Jesus Defeated death…..that is what this week is all about………..

In the meantime, I encourage us to slow down and be sensitive to each other. Just telling someone you are praying for them…may mean nothing to them. Your intent is good, but you may need to go deeper and take time, instead of rushing off.

Christians are good and saying to many, I’m praying for you, but take the time……….many don’t know what that really means.

A man who has been a great example to me is Pastor Leonard Navarre, who takes the time to talk to individuals and pray with them, and take an interest in their lives.

Leonard is like Barnabas of the Bible, …..

Barnabas came out of nowhere to encourage Saul and be his personal advocate. (Pastor Jim Montoya did that for me, as has Leonard and several others)

How did Barnabas know Saul needed help?

We don’t know. Yet we do know that God is sovereign and has Barnabases in every town, every church, on every college campus, and even on the mission field.

Each Barnabas stands ready at a moments notice to come to the aid of someone in the need of encouragement.

In fact, that’s what the name Barnabas means——-“son of encouragement”

Everytime we see Barnabas in the Bible he’s offering encouragement to someone——the underdog, the one with the bad track record, to the skinny one in the corner, the one at the end of the line waiting to be picked on a team, to the one who has fallen and is full of shame and humiliation, to the one who has suffered a loss in life.

We all need a Barnabas or two in our lives.

 I pray that today’s CUP and been encouraging to you!

Let us be in prayer for Israel………….

JERUSALEM, Israel – Ten days after being critically wounded by an
anti-tank missile that hit his school bus, 16-year-old Daniel Viflic
succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

Moments before the missile hit, dozens of children had been dropped
off. Only Daniel and the bus driver – who sustained shrapnel wounds to
his leg – remained. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.

Following the attack, Palestinians fired 120 rockets, missiles, and
mortar shells on southern Israel. The IDF responded by targeting the
terror infrastructure, including arms smuggling tunnels, weapons
warehouses, and launch sites.

Hamas and Israel agreed to a shaky ceasefire at the beginning of the
week. On Saturday, Palestinians fired Grad missiles at Israel’s
coastal cities of Ashkelon and Ashdod. Israel responded by
successfully targeting two terror sites in northern Gaza.

“The IDF will not allow the Israeli southern communities to continue
living under constant threat and will continue to respond with
determination to any attempt to use terror against the citizens of
Israel. The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely
responsible for any terrorist activity emanating from the Gaza Strip,”
the IDF Spokesperson’s Office said.

I am sadden that much of the secular media avoids Israel…..our government has walked away from Israel……..

We need to pray for rain…………It is very dry…Ken my friend at the National Weather service in Albuquerque tell’s me that 71% of New Mexico is in a severe drought and soon much will be in extreme drought, water is running short in some communities around New Mexico.

KKIM/KARS newsman Frank Haley has this story on the wildfire near Clovis, NM…….

Curry County firefighters are working to
contain a 17-thousand-acre wildfire along Highway 267.  The
20-mile-long blaze is burning between Melrose and Floyd.  Officials
say the fire has already destroyed three homes and several others are
in danger.  Firefighters had the blaze about 15-percent contained as
of last night.

We also have wildfires in Texas consuming thousands of acres…..a Volunteer Firefighter has lost his life in one of those fires.

Let us be in prayer…………….
