Dear KKIM/KARS Family, May God be with you and yours…….. We come together in the Love of our Lord! John Piper: The closer you get to the finish line, the clearer becomes the face of Jesus. A great incentive to run. WOW! What words from Pastor John Piper! I want to share with you today this devotional from Dr. Charles Stanley……8:05am weekdays on KKIM….it is so AWESOME…..please pull out your Bibles…. Read | 1 John 1:8-10 By forsaking the broad worldly way, believers have chosen a narrow path (Matt. 7:13). However, we’re not wandering blindly on it. The Holy Spirit is our guide. He directs our steps toward new opportunities and offers discernment so we can make wise decisions that keep us on course for God’s will. It is the nature of this journey that we have to stop often and seek guidance. God is pleased to respond to earnest requests for direction, as He wants to keep His followers in the center of His will. But I’ve discovered that many Christians wonder how to pursue divine guidance. Seeking God’s direction involves a pattern that begins with cleansing—in other words, the first place to look is at ourselves. Ask, “Father, do You see anything in my life that might interfere with my understanding what You are saying?” Sin shuts down the guidance process: it strangles the power flowing from the Holy Spirit and thereby clouds our judgment (1 Thess. 5:19). First John 1:9 tells us that God cleanses unrighteousness when we confess our sins. The Bible also contains a clear warning for those who refuse to relinquish a rebellious habit or attitude—the Lord does not hear their cries (Ps. 66:18). As He brings to mind problem areas, lay them before the cross. Cleansing is actually woven into the entire process of gaining divine guidance. God brings sin to our attention as we’re equipped to deal with it. So on the way to receiving His clear direction, we may revisit this “first” step often and in that way can experience a time of rich spiritual growth and renewal. That is such a GREAT word from Charles Stanley..then again everyday he has a great word for us…….I would encourage you to pray over the scripture he has listed, I would encourage us all to ask the question, is there anything in our lives that is interfering with our relationship with Jesus Christ? Anything that is filling that relationship with darkness? What are you paying attention to today? Here is the Latest on Juliet Tross, the wife of Pastor Mark Tross who co-hosts, The Weekend Edition of NM News and Views and Ask the Pastor on KKIM. Juliet will have a spinal tap today to check for meningitis….please continue to pray. On NM News and Views yesterday we honored the life of Rev. David Wilkerson. After hearing from listeners and praying, it is what God moved us to do…….. With all the bad news out in the world…..it is so right to look back at the life of Rev. Wilkerson and what we can learn from this Great man of God and continue to be the Salt and Light of the World….it is so right to lean from Rev. Wilkerson’s life. While many in the World watch this Royal Wedding and many are so consumed by the glitz and glitter of Royalty……I prefer to look at the Salt and Light…..and learn…… When our young people are looking for role models, have them look at the life of Rev. Wilkerson. Frank Haley reported this morning on KKIM/KARS that the Royal Wedding was witnessed by 2 billion people! It always intrigues me why something like a Royal Wedding draws so much attention here in America..and people consumed by news about Movie Stars ….Could we get 1 million American’s at a Revival? Could we get 500,000? 100,000? just asking……..give me your thoughts, please on why you think people are fascinated by Royalty. You see there was nothing that I saw in the secular media on the passing of Rev. Wilkerson……..what does that tell us? A man who helped millions of people. WOW, What a wonderful time of hearing Victor Martinez and Pastor Juan Romero talk about how Wilkerson’s ministry affected their lives on NM News and Views. I think Victor said it best when he shared it was the seeds that Rev. Wilkerson planted in his life years ago that helped him grow in Christ! What can we learn from that? Everyday, Every person we meet we have the opportunity to plant seeds into their life….and help them grow in Christ and bear fruit in their life. We were also so blessed to have Dr. Jack Smart the President of Teen Challenge on with us live from Hot Springs, Arkansas. Teen Challenge of course was founded by Rev. Wilkerson. Dr. Smart was able to share with us more on the life of Rev. Wilkerson and how he touched the lives of millions! Dr. Smart was also able to share with us his description of the devastation in the Hot Springs, Arkansas area from the Tornado that struck there Monday night destroying one of Teen Challenge new buildings. Thankfully no one was injured. Victor Martinez, and what a friend of KKIM/KARS Victor has become, a wonderful resource…..Victor sent this to me last night………… Click on the link below to listen to a very timely message from David Wilkerson called “A Call to Anguish”. 7 minutes and 24 seconds long… http://ellerslie.com/BT4.html This is a posting from the Teen Challenge web site this morning by the President of Teen Challenge, Dr. Jack Smart who was with us last night on NM News and Views. My thanks to Dear Friend Chuck Bates of IRN/USA Radio for helping line this up. By the way Chuck is very involved in Teen Challenge. Loss of Rev. David Wilkerson Submitted by: Jack Smart Administration The family of Teen Challenge USA is immeasurably saddened today at the loss of our founder, Rev. David Wilkerson. Rev. Wilkerson was killed in a car accident in which his wife, Gwen, was also injured and is in serious condition. “Brother Dave” was used by God in 1958 to reach out to gang members in New York City. Through that singular act of obedience, tens of thousands of those bound by drug, alcohol and other addictions have found freedom through Jesus Christ–there are 233 centers in the US, and 1187 total worldwide, providing help to as many as 25,000 people needing deliverance through the power of God. Please keep Gwen and the entire Wilkerson family in your prayers. Right now, it is as important as ever for us to carry on the mantle of this ministry to honor Brother David’s legacy. We will provide updates concerning plans for a memorial service as soon as they are available. UPDATE: Background on David Wilkerson David Wilkerson was born May 19, 1931 in Hammond, Indiana. David Ray Wilkerson was the second child of Kenneth and Ann Wilkerson. At the age of eight, David felt the call of God and made the decision to become a minister of the gospel in 1939. On June 14, 1952 he married Gwen Carosso. Gwen remembers falling in love with David when she was 13 years old. His father was pastor of her church in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania. In February 1958 David Wilkerson was compelled to go to New York City after seeing a photograph of seven teenage gang members on trial for murder. In 1959, David resigned his pastorate in Pennsylvania and moved his family to New York City, where he founded Teen Challenge (initially called Teenage Evangelism). Through his singular act of obedience, tens of thousands of those bound by drug, alcohol and other addictions have found freedom through Jesus Christ–there are 233 centers in the US, and 1187 total worldwide, providing help to as many as 25,000 people needing deliverance through the power of God. In 1963 the story of Pastor Wilkerson’s early years in New York was published in The Cross and the Switchblade. The book became a best-selling phenomenon, and has been distributed in excess of 15 million copies in more than 30 languages. The success of Teen Challenge and The Cross and the Switchblade resulted in a flood of invitation from across the country asking David Wilkerson to speak at youth gatherings. Thus began the David Wilkerson Youth Crusades, an evangelistic ministry reaching the neediest young people, offering help for body and soul in 1964. In 1967, David Wilkerson established CURE Corps –Collegiate Urban Renewal Effort. Wilkerson called college graduates to set aside their careers and pledge two years to work in the poorest areas of the drug-ravaged South Bronx. In 1969 the best-selling book The Cross and the Switchblade was released as a motion picture starring Pat Boone as David Wilkerson and Erik Estrada as Nicky Cruz, the teenage gang member whose live was dramatically transformed by Christ. Although Pastor Wilkerson left New York City in 1970, he continued to return annually to conduct street meetings in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. David Wilkerson’s ever-expanding evangelistic ministry headquarters moved to Texas, where he founded World Challenge, Inc. in 1971. Coming back to New York City for a street rally, in 1986, David Wilkerson was shocked by the depravity of the place. Praying that God raise up a testimony in this hellish place, he was shocked when he heard God direct him to move his family back to New York City and establish a church in Times Square. The church opened its doors in October 1987, using rented auditoriums around Times Square. In 1989, fulfilling God’s promise to provide a beautiful building for the church, the Mark Hellinger Theatre was purchased as Times Square Church’s permanent home. The New York Daily News declared “Standing Room Only” for Jesus on Broadway. David Wilkerson began holding international conference for pastors and their spouses in 1999. His burden was to share and learn with them more of an intimacy with Christ, “Renewing Your Passion for Christ.” In 2008 David Wilkerson was reunited with Nicky Cruz, Sonny Arguinzoni, and Israel Narvaez on the platform at Times Square Church for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of his first visit to New York City. Because of Wilkerson’s calling to the streets of New York all three of the men’s lives were forever changed. And because of their ministries thousands more lives have been changed by God. April 27th, 2011 David Wilkerson passed from this earthly life to meet Jesus. What rejoicing in heaven! I’m sure there will be a long line of people to say “Thank you, I was a life that you touched,” but knowing David Wilkerson; he’ll be on his knees before his Lord – praising Him. What a Godly Legacy Rev. Wilkerson has left us all………I thank the many people who have contacted us expressing their gratitude for his life and how his ministry affected them. Pastor Juan Romero asked last night on NM News and Views, “Who is going to replace Rev. Wilkerson?” I replied………You and I, Pastor Juan…and all of you…..we must pick up the baton and shine brightly…being the Salt and Light…people like Pastor Juan, Kyle Martin, Frank Haley,Leonard Navarre, Jim Montoya, Mark Tross, Paul Holt, Steve Smothermon, Larry Moss, Lane Brown,Randy Walquist, Mabel Lopez,Sandy Harrington,Garland Moore, and on and on I go mentioning names and I am going to get into trouble because I will leave somebody out…..but the KKIM/KARS Radio Ministry is taking our Charge from the Lord and helping raise up Radio Evangelists, fulfilling the Great Commission. We are thankful to have Pastor Steve Smothermon with us weekdays at 9am and Saturdays at 7am. ps ….please forgive me for not listing everyone’s name!
