Angus Buchan – Faith Like Potatoes
outside Santa Fe that destroyed a home Sunday and caused several
evacuations was caused by overheated car brakes.
The brush fire near Highway 285 and Old Las Vegas Highway
started around 3 p.m.
It burned about 14 acres and engulfed one home. Although it
was no longer spreading by Sunday night, firefighters worked
overnight on containment. Evacuations for six homes in the area were
lifted Sunday night.
There were no reported injuries.
Meanwhile, the 28,000-acre Miller Fire continued to burn in a
remote area of the Gila Wilderness and prompted a voluntary evacuation
of Gila Hot Springs on Sunday because of the fire’s potential to
approach homes.
A third fire, the Crooked Creek Complex Fire near Hope, has
burned about 15,000 acres and continues to give crews a tough time
because of steep and rugged terrain.
