(Houston
, TX) – The upcoming prayer event that Governor Rick Perry is promoting has drawn concern from progressive Christian leaders in Houston. The “Houston Chronicle” says the Houston Clergy Council wrote a letter signed by 24 local leaders, many of them Unitarian Universalists or members of denominations welcoming GLBT Christians. The letter says in part, quote, “We ask that Rick Perry leave the ministry to us and refocus his energy on the work of governing our state.” The event is scheduled for August 6th in Houston’s Reliant Stadium.I’m sorry, but you just know this is going to evoke a comment from me. Adopting the name “Christian” obviously doesn’t mean you model Christian values. I believe the intent of this gathering is to call this nation to prayer and repentance, both commands of God throughout Scripture. I believe Gov. Perry described it as a “holy convocation” to call forth a “Joel Army” and bring God’s healing hand to bear upon the land. Seems the idea of righteousness in the nation is a bit uncomfortable to certain “Christian” denominations. My response to them, “WORD OF GOD SPEAK!”…LOUDLY!PSALM 37:3-6 “Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight (SUBMIT) yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires(HIS)of your heart. Commit (SUBMIT) your way to the LORD, Trust(OBEY) also in HIM, and HE will do it. HE will bring forth your righteousness (AHH, there it is) as the light (in full view) and your judgment (Oh, Oh, there it is again) as the noonday (In full view).
So, I guess the complaint here is that sin might be brought to light, and humility and repentance might be required. Yeah, I think that’s what Gov. Perry is praying for…Come on Church, let’s all join him in Houston!

>>Hundreds Show Up To Block Controversial Group At Soldier’s Funeral
(Nashville, TN)- Hundreds of American troop supporters showed up to block an extremist church group from picketing outside a Nashville soldier’s funeral. The supporters lined up outside the funeral of Sergeant Kevin Balduf. Only three members of the Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church showed up and their shouts were drowned out by cheers from the counter-protestors. The parents of Sergeant Balduf, who died serving in Afghanistan last month, shook hands with many of the supporters and say they were amazed and thankful for the turnout.
