Dear KKIM/KARS Family,
May you and your have the most Blessed Thanksgiving ever!
Sharon and I want to thank you all for your love and prayers!
We pray for you all everyday!
May you drink this CUP slowly………absorb it into your heart, soul, and mind…….
Be still now……….
I am very Thankful for the Family the Lord has brought together here at the CUP and KKIM/KARS radio. It is a place where many have not met face to face, but we know each other through the CUP and our prayers. I believe we are going on 14 years now of serving the CUP which is simply amazing. Sometimes I wish I would have kept a scrap book! This is a place that all can gather and anytime…anytime…….I keep hearing that some of you save the CUPS and read them over and over or save them. Pastor’s take sip’s of the CUP and use it in sermons. I know one lovely lady that takes the CUP and translates it into the language of her home Country and sends it onto her loved ones. I sometimes wonder what my Grandpa and Grandma and Mom and dad would think of the CUP. It has been a very challenging year, the loss of my Uncle Joe at the start of the year, he was my main council in life besides Sharon. That left a huge hole in my life. Joe was like my Dad since my Dad passed away 20 years ago. There for awhile I would want to pick up the phone and dial his number to ask him something. This is a time when memories of family come on real strong for me. I am so blessed to have the family I have, the work that I have to do that the Lord has given me. I give thanks to the LORD for what HE has done and is doing with the CUP and KKIM/KARS and in the life of myself and Sharon and the kid’s and doggies!!! For God’s Glory Alone!!!!!!
God used Moses and Paul to remind us, He transforms “the least of us” to be light in darkness.
My life verse is……..My life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus Acts 20:24
If only more would have a personal relationship with the Lord so that they know what their work is to be……
I have nothing to do unless the work comes from the Lord
As I look around my office here at the Moede Ranch, I see pictures of Sharon of my Mom and Dad, Grandpa and Grandma’s, Uncle Joe, the Kid’s, Harmon Killebrew……Brownie, Buffy, Reno, Barley…….people who have impacted my life in a Godly way….That to me is what Thanksgiving is all about, being Thankful and Giving of yourself.
The Doggies give far more love and loyalty than they are give.
We are so thankful for the healing Buffy has received! PRAISE GOD!
The most Godly people I know have always given more, than they have received.
They have the heart of a Servant………
But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. Matthew 23:11
There have been many more challenges this year and there will be more……We have an excellent post on Challenges today thanks to Victor……..
There were more layoffs in the Radio Business yesterday here in Albuquerque. One station made cuts in it’s newsroom. Let us pray for those who lost their jobs yesterday. It is getting to where KKIM/KARS will have the largest amount of resources in a Radio newsroom in this State. That is because we have Frank Haley, myself and Mark Tross, Paul Holt, Larry Moss, Leonard Navarre, and Jim Montoya. Thank you LORD for those you have brought to help be the Salt and Light! if we are not, who?
As far as I know KKIM/KARS is one of the very few Christian Radio Stations in the United States of America to have it’s own News Dept. It is sad to see that the majority of Christian Stations see local news as not important.
Sometimes I feel very old in the Radio Business with all this new technology!!! I got a new cell phone and now I can listen to KKIM on my phone!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have never thought that 37 years ago when I started in radio!!!! I know one thing…The Lord has shown me that one thing has not changed, People need to hear the TRUTH…….and that is what we will continue to do here at the CUP and on KKIM/KARS as long as the Lord directs us to do so. They can create all the fancy and dancy equipment they want….but the TRUTH is what matters the most, and this old man is here for such a time as this.
We are always led by the LORD in what we do here…….we Thank the LORD for what HE has done and will do.
Today as you prepare for Thanksgiving will you sip this CUP slowly?? Will you take it one sip at a time? Pray in between each posting that we have today…..we have wonderful postings from Celina, Paul, Victor, and yes George Washington!!!! and David Barton. You gotta read Paul Holt’s write up on the gift this Thanksgiving that he and his wife Jo received.
Lars and Gretchen will be here for Thanksgiving but Greg, Mike and Steph will be in Denver with each other for Thanksgiving.
Enjoy the Blessing’s that in store for you as you drink this CUP…….Let us be Thankful……..
First we have this prayer need……….
Hi Dewey. I have a prayer request for the prayer warriors of the Cup. My sister Charlene in Las Cruces has been hemorrhaging in one of her eyes. She will visit a doctor tomorrow morning in El Paso for this. She is in her early 60’s, is diabetic and also has trouble with her other eye. Right now she can only see up close. She can’t read or drive. She is a widow but has a son and daughter in law near by. She is trusting God’s will in the matter but is obviously scared and hopes she’ll be able to see again. Please pray for God’s healing on her eyes and that His had is upon the doctor as she’s treated tomorrow. My wife, kids and I will be traveling to Las Cruces tomorrow to spend Thanksgiving with her and the rest of our family done there.
Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to all readers of the Cup!
Victor
We are praying Victor! God Bless you all!

Celebrating Thanksgiving in America
by David Barton
The tradition introduced by European Americans of Thanksgiving as a time to focus on God and His blessings dates back well over four centuries in America. For example, such thanksgivings occurred in 1541 at Palo Duro Canyon, Texas with Coronado and 1,500 of his men; 1 in 1564 at St. Augustine, Florida with French Huguenot (Protestant) colonists; 2 in 1598 at El Paso, Texas with Juan de Oñate and his expedition; 3 in 1607 at Cape Henry, Virginia with the landing of the Jamestown settlers; 4 in 1619 at Berkeley Plantation, Virginia; 5 (and many other such celebrations). But it is primarily from the Pilgrim’s Thanksgiving celebration of 1621 that we derive the current tradition of Thanksgiving Day.
The Pilgrims set sail for America on September 6, 1620, and for two months braved the harsh elements of a storm-tossed sea. Upon disembarking at Plymouth Rock, they held a prayer service and then hastily began building shelters; however, unprepared for such a harsh New England winter, nearly half of them died before spring. 6 Emerging from that grueling winter, the Pilgrims were surprised when an Indian named Samoset approached them and greeted them in their own language, explaining to them that he had learned English from fishermen and traders. A week later, Samoset returned with a friend named Squanto, who lived with the Pilgrims and accepted their Christian faith. Squanto taught the Pilgrims much about how to live in the New World, and he and Samoset helped forge a long-lasting peace treaty between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians. Pilgrim Governor William Bradford described Squanto as “a special instrument sent of God for [our] good . . . and never left [us] till he died.” 7
That summer, the Pilgrims, still persevering in prayer and assisted by helpful Indians, 8 reaped a bountiful harvest. 9 As Pilgrim Edward Winslow (later to become the Governor) affirmed, “God be praised, we had a good increase of corn”; “by the goodness of God, we are far from want.” 10 The grateful Pilgrims therefore declared a three-day feast in December 1621 to thank God and to celebrate with their Indian friends 11 – America’s first Thanksgiving Festival. Ninety Wampanoag Indians joined the fifty Pilgrims for three days of feasting (which included shellfish, lobsters, turkey, corn bread, berries, deer, and other foods), of play (the young Pilgrim and Wampanoag men engaged in races, wrestling matches, and athletic events), and of prayer. This celebration and its accompanying activities were the origin of the holiday that Americans now celebrate each November.
Now this Devotional that Victor sent to us is one that really hit me! WOW! it is for such a time as this as we close another year and get set to start another…….
The November 21 reading from the Streams in the Desert daily devotional:
Commit your way to the LORD. (Psalm 37:5)
Talk to God about whatever may be pressuring you and then commit the entire matter into His hands. Do this so that you will be free from the confusion, conflicts, and cares that fill the world today. In fact, anytime you are preparing to do something, undergoing some trial, or simply pursuing your normal business, tell the Father about it. Acquaint Him with it; yes, even burden Him with it, and you will have put the concerns and cares of the matter behind you. From that point forward, exercise quiet, sweet diligence in your work, recognizing your dependence on Him to carry the matter for you. Commit your cares and yourself with them, as one burden, to your God. R. Leighton
Build a little fence of trust
Around today;
Fill the space with loving work
And therein stay.
Look not through the protective rails
Upon tomorrow;
God will help you bear what comes
Of joy or sorrow.
Mary Butts
You will find it impossible to “commit your way to the LORD,” unless your way has met with His approval. It can only be done through faith, for if there is even the slightest doubt in your heart that your way is not a good one, faith will refuse to have anything to do with it. Also, this committing of your way to Him must be continuous, not just one isolated action. And not matter how unexpected or extraordinary His guidance may seem and no matter how close to the edge of the cliff He may lead you, never snatch the guiding reins from His hands.
Are you willing to submit all your ways to God, allowing Him to pass judgment on them? There is nothing a Christian needs to more closely examine than his own confirmed views and habits, for we are so prone to taking God’s divine approval of them for granted. And that is why some Christians are so anxious and fearful. They have obviously not truly committed their way to the Lord and left it with Him. They took it to Him but walked away with it again. selected
Thank you Victor!
Now here is a Special Thanksgiving story from Pastor Paul Holt………
Dewey,
The burden of the Lord is light indeed, but following His is not without it’s challenges. When I started down this road of ministry a few years ago, I did not feel I was giving up anything. Turning down a higher paying job to pursue this life was a privilege.
When I recognized that God was calling me to expand my ministry into Christian broadcasting, I knew that it would be a challenge on my finances and time. But again the blessings far outweigh the burdens. When my laptop failed this time last year, I trusted that if I needed a new laptop, God would provide. He did provide. He blessed with a brand new Macbook Air. This was the very type of computer I needed to keep up the New Mexico News and Views website and to cohost NM News and Views (Weekend Edition) and Ask the Pastor, neither of which I was doing like I am now until after He gave me this wonderful tool.
Earlier this year as my wife Josi and I were making the Saturday trip to Albuquerque, one of the serpentine belts of our Subaru Forester shredded and caused the engine to overheat. This ended up being a fatal catastrophe for the engine and we were left without a car. Understand, that we live over a hundred miles from Albuquerque, and we have committed to making the trip every week.
Josi and I have put our trust in the Lord. We believe that if God has really called us to do something, then He will provide what is needed. I have to admit that is humbling to ask for help. About this same time, my daughter decided it would save her money to move back home until she gets married in December. She works at the same weekday job I do for a dentist in Socorro. For the last few months, we have carpooled together and she would loan us her car on Saturdays.
The day of her marriage is quickly approaching and with the various demands on our time and finances we could not raise the money to buy a car or even put a reasonable down payment on one. I have felt for some time now that we are not to incur anymore debt and prayed that the Lord would reveal how we could get our next vehicle. My daughter will leave her job this week and we will no longer be car pooling.
Two weeks ago you invited us to attend a conference at the Hotel Albuquerque with Chuck and Larry Bates. You may recall that as you introduced the people that give their time to make KKIM work, you made an impassioned plea for help in getting a vehicle for us. Well, a very kind woman by the name of April, came up to me afterward and offered to donate her 1994 Toyota T-100. This truck is in excellent condition! It has 140,000 miles (which is just warming up for a Toyota).
I so look forward to what the Lord will use me for in the coming year. He has done mighty things in 2011 and Thanksgiving never held more blessings. This is a time to recognize what God has given and what we can give in return. I hope we can all be a blessing to each other and do our part for the body of Jesus Christ. I am grateful for faithful followers of Jesus and their generosity and obedience.
Love you,
Paul
