How to ease neck pain Do your neck and shoulders feel stiff when you awake in the morning? Or do they seize painfully with no warning? If so, you have plenty of company. Doctors estimate that seven out of 10 people will be troubled by neck pain at some point in their lives, often causing daily aching in the neck and shoulder area. Sometimes pain starts with the bang of a rear-end collision, but more often, the neck and its surrounding structures begin to ache after years of normal use, overuse, and misuse. Without knowing it, you may be encouraging neck and shoulder pain by the way you perform everyday activities. In general, try to keep your neck in a neutral position, which means your head balances directly over your shoulders and is not leaning forward or cocked to one side. Here are eight tips I’ve used for over two decades to help my patients achieve a healthier neck posture while performing everyday activities. At the computer or desk. When working at the computer or at a desk, keep your head balanced directly over your spine as much as possible. That means setting your chair height so both feet rest on the ground, and sitting with your buttocks far back in your chair, using a small pillow to support your lower back if needed. Properly adjusting the keyboard and monitor may be difficult or impossible with a laptop computer. You can plug a separate, full-size keyboard into a laptop to help you achieve better positioning. But no matter how perfect your office-chair posture, it’s important to get up, stretch, and move around every half hour. If you tend to get lost in your work, program your computer to flash a reminder. Telephone use. If you spend a lot of time on the phone, try to avoid leaning your head to one side. This is also important when you use a cell phone and aren’t sitting at your desk while you speak. A headset or speakerphone is a good option to help keep your head in a neutral position for hands-free talking. Headsets are available for both your desk phone and cell phone…I strongly advise you get one. Reading at home. If you’re sitting in a chair, try to maintain an upright posture. Hold the book so that you don’t have to lean down or forward to see it. A pillow on your lap may help. If you must read in bed, sit up straight or use a specially designed wedge pillow. Or lie on your side with your neck straight and hold the book in front of you. Walking. Avoid high heels, which change the alignment of your body from the ground up, characteristically ending in a head-thrust-forward position that stresses neck muscles. This could be the reason women have neck pain more than men do as well as low back pain, too. Carrying a bag. Choose a lightweight purse or backpack, and don’t overload. Don’t sling a backpack over one shoulder. Try switching to a fanny pack or a backpack designed to put weight on the hips instead of just the upper back. With heavier loads, use a wheeled pack or briefcase. If you must hoist a purse on your shoulder, alternate which shoulder you use. Driving. Posture is a factor in whether a collision will cause whiplash. Your headrest should be high enough and close enough to catch your head in a rear-end collision. Position the seat so you can sit up straight with your head no more than two to four inches in front of the headrest. Adjust the headrest so its upper edge is level with the top of your head: the back curve of your skull should meet the cushion of the headrest. Lifting. Improper lifting techniques put stress on the neck as well as the lower back. Bend your hips and knees instead of your back. Keep the object close to you while straightening your legs. When lifting something over your head, don’t tilt your neck backward. Strengthen your arms to make proper lifting easier. Watching TV. Sit far enough from a TV or movie screen that you can watch without tilting your head back. Don’t sit off to the side, forcing you to turn your neck for long periods. Isometric neck strengthening This exercise can also be done in a sitting position—at the office, for example, or lying down with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Place your palm on your forehead and press gently as you try to bring your chin to your chest—your neck muscles will tighten without your head moving. Hold for a count of 3 to 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times.

In these last few months the LORD has sent people into my life to help guide me……..Tom Johnson, Wannel Pate, Steve Smothermon, always with me is Leonard Navarre and Sandy Harrington now let me tell you my wife Sharon is also a Mentor of mine! So are the kid’s! Tom looked at Sharon awhile back and said,” Sharon you are a strong women!” That hit me like a ton of bricks! I have not given my wife all the credit due her for her strength!!! She has a quiet strength, while her husband vocalizes it and writes it..LOL! Men please do not underestimate the strength of your wife! I have had to learn to listen more…….and pray more……..listen more to my wife and to my mentor’s and to people around me…and then pray more……..and then listen to our LORD! I see the great benefit now!

I am thankful to my LORD that each day I can humble myself to come to the CUP here and share with you. My prayer is that we all learn together…..and learning happens when we are humble.

Yesterday on the CUP radio program I had Sandy Harrington with me and we had so much fun, we turned the tables and Sandy interviewed me!!! I am always interviewing people……so this was fun! One of the things that came out in the interview is that I so much love to learn! I love to learn how to live my life better for JESUS CHRIST!!!! To be tuned in with GOD better. That is one of the reasons I am always talking about Mentor’s, reading the Bible, praying, listening to GOD…….I have in my life tasted the pit of HELL, and I do not want anyone to do that.

So that is one reason I am here every day trying to share with you, so that you can grow in JESUS!

I am totally convinced at this stage in my life the greatest things we do, we do not get paid for!!! Meaning money get’s in the way of fully serving our LORD!

I do not have a job!!! PRAISE GOD! I do not want a JOB! I serve my LORD!

Every December, Legacy Church in Albuquerque raises money to sponsor children’s wishes for The Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Mexico. With the wonderful generosity of their congregation they were able to raise $73,256.18!!!! This will grant the wishes of all 10 children in December.

PRAISE GOD for the people of Legacy Church!!!!

Now get a load of this!!!! In the last 9 years Legacy Church has raised over $425,000 for Make-A-Wish of New Mexico!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!! My Minnesota math says that is almost a half mil!!! LOL! LOL! I love rounding UP!!!!

Legacy Church is an excellent example of sowing into our community and State. The Congregation also gives much to our Police and Fire Dept’s. Look at Valley View Christian Church in Edgewood, NM in all they do for the Community!!! Everything from the food bank, to painting the Public School rooms, to taking care of the cars of women, single parents, holding a community carnival every year……..a car show that helps introduce people to JESUS, it is now one of the largest car show’s in the state of New Mexico!

What do both of these Church’s also have in common???? They are busting at the seams!!!!!!!!! Valley View just built on and is now FULL……..they could build on again………..and Legacy Church just opened up an East side Campus!!!

If your Church is struggling, and I know there are many………It may be time to call the folks at Legacy and Valley View and let them share with you…..It also really comes down to Leadership…….and both these Church’s have excellent leadership. God is honoring the leadership of these two Church’s.

Great examples because Legacy is in the City of Albuquerque and Valley View is in the rural area of Edgewood.

Valley View and Legacy are reaping what they sow into God’s people……..

I share this because I have seen both these Church’s grow before my eye’s……I Know the leadership of these Church’s…I talk to the people who go to these Church’s and they are so on FIRE for the LORD…….It has helped me grow in my walk with the LORD and also it has very much helped the growth of KKIM/KARS

Now as if you know me at all I have a GREAT love for our Country! I also have a very special love for Montana and North Dakota as I worked in both states in radio. I love the people, the history and the landscape! I want to share with you some news today that is not getting all press it deserves! We live in a GREAT COUNTRY, Despite Ourselves!!! LOL LOL! God has blessed America beyond belief! HE has given us so many resources!!! When I first started in Sidney Montana back in the late 70’s an Oil Boom was going on….I remember going to work at 3am, YES! I still get up that early…….back in those days you had to get to the station early to warm up the transmitter before you signed on. Loved those days! Too many computers these days to run everything……..anyhow during the oil boom people were sleeping in their cars….sleeping in the parks…….today in the Williston, North Dakota and Sidney, Montana area the boom is happening bigger than ever…….they have run out of housing…..people are just flocking to the area…….read this write up……..We can eliminate our reliance on foriegn oil if we want to…….

Oil production tops half a million barrels a day: Mild winter helps keep numbers up

North Dakota oil production has surpassed half a million barrels per day, according to a press release from the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division. That represents about 10 percent of domestic production, according to the press release, more than is imported from Iraq or Columbia.
Last winter at this time, production was increasing slowly due to hard weather conditions. In the spring, flooding bogged down production as well, but since last summer, the numbers have been shooting up.
“In January and February of 2011 it was only about 6,000 barrels. From June to July we jumped about 39,000 barrels. We increased 22,000 barrels from October to November,” said Alison Ritter, public information officer in the Oil and Gas Division.
Production numbers are typically released about two months after the fact. December’s numbers will be available in February. There is no indication that production will slow.
“It’s been dry; it’s been mild. When those December numbers come out it’ll be interesting to compare from last year in 2010 when we had a lot of snow,” Ritter said.
“We estimate there’s about 7 billion barrels of recoverable oil, anywhere from seven to 11 billion barrels of recoverable oil. That’s based on estimations from the U.S. Geological Survey,” Ritter said.

WOW! Did you read that? More than Iraq and Columbia!!!! This to me is OUTSTANDING NEWS! This should not be a Political issue, but a COMMON SENSE issue! You get America drilling for oil and the Pipeline built from Canada and your talking economic boom for our nation!

Now this oil boom does not come without any problems……You have housing shortages, school that can’t serve all the new students, roads all of sudden in rural areas cannot handle increased heavy truck traffic…..water and sewer….and a boom attracts the worst of the worst…..crime increases. So let us keep this area in our prayers. This whole area is going through much now. This is where TRUE LEADERSHIP comes in that can help guide people through an oil boom. COMMON SENSE!

I still believe that if I were to start a Political party I would call it JESUS Party or the Common Sense Party!

This next column by Ray Sturdivant hit’s the nail right on the head for all the obstacles we face as a Nation, The Church, Our economy, Our Families, My prayer is that we all will put this into practice……..

Destroying our Jerichos.
We can draw analogies to our own life from the story of the battle of Jericho in the Old Testament. The story represents, for us, the spiritual victory of tearing down strongholds in our souls that keep us from experiencing the promise of abundant life. The story is found in Joshua chapters 1-6 with chapter 6 as the climax of the story.

Jericho was a walled city and presented a major obstacle to the Jews because it was right smack in the middle of their path into the Promised Land. Jericho had to go. Because the Jews relied on the Lord in faith, He miraculously tore down the walls of Jericho and the conquest of the promise Land was able to proceed. God wants to join forces with us to tear down the strongholds in our souls so that we can experience the promise land of the abundant life Jesus promised. God has promised us victory if we will show up in faith and stand in the victory that Jesus has already won on our behalf.
Romans 8:37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.

There are four principals that we can gather from the story as instructions for tearing down our Jerichos.

First we must humble ourselves before God by recognizing our helplessness in the battle.
Joshua humbly met with God and got instruction in Joshua 5:13-15. We have to recognize the stronghold and our helplessness to tear it down on our own.

Second, we must confront our strongholds in faith. In Jericho, all the men of war marched around the city circling the city once for 6 days. The number 6 is the symbol for man so we see that we have a role in the victory that God guarantees. We have to move out in faith first before personal victory in Jesus occurs.

Third, we have to rely on God’s power not our own. In Jericho, seven priests marched around the city seven times as the priests blew the trumpets. The priests are a picture of Jesus as our High priest armed with the power of God and they marched on the seventh day. The seventh day was a symbolic day of rest. This seventh day was after the men had marched for 6 and now they rested and let God do the rest. We have to confront the Jericho’s of our lives with Jesus but we have to show up and do our part then Jesus will meet us at our Jericho’s and tear down the strongholds.

And fourth, we have to stay in agreement with God’s word and His plan. In Jericho, when the long blast of the priest’s trumpet occurred, all the people shouted. This means that when we confront strongholds in agreement with the Jesus, the walls will start to fall down.

Sell it. You know, get rid of some of the “stuff” you have accumulated.
One of my favorite axioms to interject here: “One is enough!”
6) Passion: Find a passion that creates extra income. Another job is fine, but pursuing your passion is always better.
7) Excellence: In everything, do so as unto the Lord…with EXCELLENCE!

Owning car, TV linked to heart attacks: study
Car owners with a television are 27% more likely to suffer heart attacks than people who have neither, according to a global study on physical exercise and heart disease published Wednesday.

More broadly, the study – covering more than 29,000 people in 52 countries – showed that working up a light sweat may be the best preventative medicine against heart failure.

Until now, surprisingly little research has focused on how physical exertion at work and play influences the incidence of heart attacks, and even less has directly compared this data across nations at all income levels.

“This study shows that mild to moderate physical activity at work, and any level of activity during leisure time, reduces the risk of heart attacks,” said lead researcher Claes Held, a professor at Uppsala University in Sweden.

It also “extends previous findings of the protective effect of leisure-time physical activity … to low- and middle-income countries.”

Held and colleagues poured over data collected from 1999 to 2003 for the so-called Interheart Study.

They compared one group of more than 10,000 middle-aged men and women who had had a single heart attack with an even larger cohort with no history of cardiovascular disease.

Physical activity at work and during leisure time was divided into four levels of exertion: being completely sedentary at one extreme, and, at the other, doing hard physical labor on the job or heart-pounding aerobic exercise while at play.

Not surprisingly, the study, published in the European Heart Journal, found that exercise is good for the heart.

But the effectiveness of physical activity varied depending on the setting and intensity, according to the research.

Any kind of workout during leisure time was shown to be a plus, with heart attack risk – compared to doing almost nothing – dropping 13% for mild activity and 24% for moderate or strenuous exercise.

The advantages were similar for light and moderate levels of physical activity on the job. Unexpectedly, however, heavy physical labor did not reduce risk at all.

Held and colleagues also investigated whether owning an automobile, motorcycle, stereo, TV, computer, land or livestock influenced health outcomes.

“Subjects who owned a car and a TV” – 25% of the respondents in poorer and middle-income nations, and two-thirds in rich ones – “were at higher risk of myocardial infarction,” the medical term for a heart attack, the researchers concluded.

Diabetes and high blood pressure was also more common, but only in the developing world, the researchers found.

What accounted for the link? Another set of figures from the study points to a common-sense explanation.

Possessing these coveted consumer items made it about four times more likely in poorer and middle-income countries – and twice as likely in wealthy ones – that people would be sedentary, especially at work.

The implication, in other words, is that TVs breed couch potatoes, and motor vehicles discourage walking.

“If we want to support healthy longevity, we should put a stop to the pandemic of sedantism,” Emiline Van Craenenbroeck and Viviane Conraads, both of Antwerp University Hospital Belgium, noted in a commentary in the same journal.

“Staying physically fit throughout life may well be one of the easiest, cheapest and most effective ways to avoid the coronary care unit.”

Overall, the portion of people whose pulse did not speed up during leisure time was nearly twice as high – almost 70% – in less wealthy nations.

“Since the main burden of heart disease now lies in developing countries, this information should inspire a shift in healthcare strategy in low-income regions,” Van Craenenbroeck and Conraads said.

By choice, my wife Louann and I have not had television cable since December, 2006. We rarely watch anything other than a movie every now and then and that’s from our computer. I never listen to the “tv” news as all my news comes through a few specific web sites that are very conservative. I get my weather reports from a couple of weather sites. We have NOT missed a thing by not having “cable” or “satellite”. This kind of freedom has given us much more time to communicate with each other and with others as well. We read our Bible and many Christ-centered books in the evenings. I have the time to work on a couple of books that will be coming out in the near future. Regarding the car, where we live we are blessed to be able to do a lot of walking to stores that are very close by to less than a mile away. It’s a lifestyle choice we make everyday. I encourage you to find ways to cut things out that are causing you undue stress(es) such as the television and the lack of walking. Please don’t go cold turkey with this, but rather do it with “baby steps” and with very specific written goals to achieve “such and such” by a certain date. Give it some time and then let Dewey and me know about it.

TODAY IN THE WORD

In September 2009, Sergeant Dakota Meyer, along with other American and Afghan troops, headed toward a village in the Kunar Province where they were to meet with local elders. In the pre-dawn darkness, they walked straight into an ambush. Corporal Meyer, who was securing a flank, was ordered by radio to stay put. Meyer defied those orders, fighting his way five times through the ambush to rescue three-dozen comrades.

Meyer stayed calm in the heat of battle, and men’s lives were saved as a result. Abigail is the hero of our story today, and her level-headedness averted disaster. Her situation was tense, and lives were at stake. Her husband, Nabal the “Fool,” denied David and his men the ordinary courtesies of Hebrew hospitality, despite the fact that it was well within his means to share. David grew frustrated and then angry. He ordered that 400 of his men arm themselves and advance with the intention of wiping out absolutely everything and everyone in Nabal’s household.
Abigail’s servant recounted to her the grim details (v. 14). That he went to Abigail for help indicates that she already had a reputation as someone who was creative, strategic, wise, and level-headed—everything her husband was not. She lived up to this trust, “acting quickly” (v. 18).
Her decisions were calculated and calm. She organized a parade of gifts to meet David and his men, hoping that such lavish generosity would smooth ruffled feathers. She was not simply handling the situation from afar, though, because she mounted her donkey to follow the parade of gifts. Meeting David on the road, she delivered a speech for which she’s had little time to prepare. She was extraordinarily persuasive, turning David from his murderous intentions.
Abigail’s example of good judgment in the face of fear is one to imitate when we’re afraid. It grew from the soil of her godly character.

APPLY THE WORD
Courage requires more than a sudden and momentary injection of superhuman strength. A godly person is not Superman, donning a cape when danger looms. Courage is an aspect of godly character. To be courageous, one must develop the capacity for self-control and calm when situations are tense. Courage also requires a surprising kind of creativity and strategic thinking. These are qualities formed in us by God over the years in a variety of situations.

From the Hungry Preachers Clinic # 01

When the Father wants to deal with his people in a thorough fashion, he brings them back – as it were – to certain fundamentals. This is radically clear as one move into the apostolic and prophetic realm. Men of prophetic stature, as well as men of the sending and of the Word, are foundational men. Restoration on Old Testament ground always meant fairly rough dealings, even judgment at times – the prophets were men of repentance, the role of the priest was one of dividing between the holy and the profane. Revivals in the Old Testament – there were nine – always meant a returning to sacrificial ground.

God reveals himself as the Alpha and the Omega, the Author and the Finisher. When something has come to its end, its Ground Zero, he is indeed ready to produce a new beginning. Even in the End Time, when everything has come to its final devastation, God is still the beginner. Obviously, this brings hope to the scene.

Hebrews 12 has glorious words about final shakings, and about the things that cannot be shaken. And the writer of the letter talks about our arrival at Zion, the Heavenly city, the city that cannot be shaken – the city which we are brought to, brought into, even the city which we as saints constitute. The great question; what are the things that we have been brought to?

Our returning to fundamentals seem to focus on the things which belong to Zion, the city which is meant to stand as Light on a hill in the face of every other city-structure – even Babylon, a spiritual picture of our modern culture, including its carnality and vanity. The purpose of the Church might be summarized in a testimony of the Sovereign Lordship of Christ in every aspect of life.

Our returning to fundamentals is of apostolic nature, a returning to apostolic patterns. Our returning to fundamentals includes, even at its very beginning, to sacrifice – the Cross of Christ in all its radical aspects. It has to include an understanding of the Law of the Spirit of Life, a submission to the Law of the grain of wheat, to a submitting to these fundamental procedures brought in by the Holy Spirit. That which is apostolic and prophetic has its inception at the cross of Christ, that which is apostolic and prophetic is at all times priestly in its nature.
