Dear KKIM family,
Good Morning everyone!!!
“For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.” – Psalm 48:14
How is the weather where you are at?
It is in the 90’s here with about 5% humidity! Extreme dry conditions and extreme fire danger. Very windy today also. Worse drought in New Mexico history, we have lakes and creeks drying up. A Few small communities are finding that their wells are going dry. Please join us in praying for rain.
For those of you that get the www.windomnews.com I believe my Pastoral column is in there this week on Graduation. I believe at some point Dave will post it on the web site, I will let you know!
Here is a FUNNY BONE sent in by Darlene Quiring……….
The Ham Sandwich
A Jewish rabbi and a Catholic priest were good friends. At a picnic one day, the priest was eating a ham sandwich. “You know,” he said to his friend, “this ham sandwich is delicious. I know you’re not supposed to eat ham, but I don’t understand why such a good thing would be forbidden. When will you break down and try it?”
To which the rabbi replied, “At your wedding.”
LOL!!!
I thought you would enjoy this cartoon about Goober from the Andy Griffith show who recently passed onto heaven…….
We know George would want us to start his commemorative issue with something funny, so here’s an editorial cartoon by John Rose (who also draws “Snuffy Smith”) that we love, followed by George’s full obituary.
Courtesy of John Rose, the Daily News-Record and Byrd Newspapers of Virginia.
I kinda wonder what “Ol Goob” would say about this!
A new poll shows a majority of Americans believe the U.S. is headed for bankruptcy.
Rasmussen Reports found that 51 percent predict the U.S. government will go bankrupt before elected officials take action to balance the budget. Only 36 percent said they think the federal budget will be balanced first.
Rasmussen also found in earlier polls that 64 percent think budget cuts should be considered in every government program. And 56 percent favor a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Researchers conducted the survey of 1,000 likely voters May 14-15, 2012. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.
I think those folks in Washington DC could use some of Old Goob’s honesty!!!
From the Whisper of God……..good message after reading that News!!!!!!!!!!!!
Moving Beyond Anxiety

Thought for the Day
“Anxiety, worry, and fear can keep us from living a normal life. Many times, when we finally face what we are anxious about, it turns out that the worry was worse than the problem. When you are anxious, know that God will not allow you to be overcome; take deep breath, try to calm yourself, and know that you can only be defeated when you let the worry separate you from Him.”

Today’s Prayer
Father, there are times that I worry too much ad there are times that the worry seems to overtake me: my body sweats and my hands shake at the thought of some unknown fear. Please keep me strong during these times and let me know that You are by my side, helping me face and overcome the fears that cause me to be anxious. Amen.
Today let us continue on with our sharing on Unforgiveness and Bitterness……..
First this is what Rene shared after yesterday’s posting……..
Great teaching on both bitterness and forgiveness.
Thank you!
Rene’
Thank you much Rene! God Bless you and Paul!
We pray that yesterday’s CUP touched your heart!
Many bitter fruits come from a bitter root. Eph 4:26-31 opens with the appeal not to let the sun go down on your anger. Do not give the devil an opportunity.
Then it goes on to list the horrible things bitterness is able to produce in our lives.
Opportunities for the Devil (Eph 4:26-27) Jesus said the thief comes to “steal and kill and destroy” John 10:10, and this is exactly what the Devil does in our lives when we give him a foothold. He tries to steal our faith and leave us with fear, steal our joy and leave us with depression, steal our love and leave us with hateful thoughts toward others. The name Satan means “accuser.” And by accusing others in our minds, he causes us to dwell on their wrongs, filling in the unknowns with negative assumptions, keeping us focused on how we’ve been mistreated and unappreciated. He feeds us what we want to hear with one hand, then takes from us the peace that is rightly ours with the other.
Please share this with others……..please help them see the Light of Jesus Christ in this……..Many battle this.
Unwholesome speech (Eph 4:29) It doesn’t matter what you’re talking about; bitter people will bring up the person they are angry with and start verbally running them down. if you are talking to a bitter person, be careful that their venom against others doesn’t poison you! Hurting people hurt others!
Grieving the Holy Spirit (Eph 4:30) Our anger grieves God’s Spirit, not only producing bitter fruit but quenching the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. rather than operating in love, joy, and peace toward others. a bitter person becomes hateful, negative, and restless, closing off his heart toward others. Bitter people become very unlike themselves. The most loving and joyful people in the world can become hateful, irrational pessimists if they let bitterness take root and don’t forgive.
And as I said yesterday……believe it or not, bitterness even hurts us physically, (I see it often in people!) “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones” Proverbs 17:22 The tension of trying to contain it can harden our facial features and make us lose the radiance of our countenance, even causing a chemical imbalance in our bodies and lowering our resistance to disease! Dr. Joe I would love your comments on this!
I pray this helps you understand even better the toll bitterness and anger takes on us. Even more I pray that the Lord gives you the words to speak to others on this subject. I pray that if you have folks around you that are bitter, you will be able to share them the Light of Jesus Christ.
Darlene Quiring adds this…………
There are times when we are hurt by someone and we need to forgive them. But forgiving someone isn’t always easy. It can be an internal battle that requires diligent effort. Here are a few suggestions that can help us forgive the offense.
When we don’t forgive we are the ones that suffer
First, we must understand some of the negative ways our anger is effecting us. When we churn with anger and bitterness it steals our happiness. We are focused only on negative things and our mindset is sour. It can cause us to be irritable in general. And that irritability may spill out on others. Also it can interfere with our ability to concentrate and put our thoughts together. And if you are driving, the inability to concentrate can be disastrous. Also, sustained anger can lead to depression. Understanding how an unforgiving attitude effects us is important because it strengthens our resolve to forgive.
Forgiving through dependence and diligence
Some offenses are harder to let go of than others. Go to God in weakness and ask Him to help you forgive. Then in addition to prayer add diligent effort. Forgiving can be like a wrestling match. Our opponent must have his shoulders pinned down by force. We must choose to forgive. And we must make diligent effort.
Praying for the person you need to forgive
In addition to making a choice to forgive you can also start praying for that person. Pray and ask God to bless that person today. If you know about a specific need then ask God to bless in that area. As we pray good things for that person it will start to soften our hearts. And it will make it easier for us to forgive them.
Showing kindness aids in the forgiving process
And here is something else that will help us remove the unforgiving attitude. If it is appropriate, do something good for them. Here is just one example. Let’s say the person is a coworker who likes donuts. Why not bring in donuts for everyone and go out of your way to offer that person one. Also ask God to give you an opportunity to do them good. Then look for that opportunity to come and be ready to act on it. Doing good for them is a powerful tool for releasing an offense.
Also if we are God’s children, then we should forgive because of how much we have been forgiven. I’ll end by quoting this verse found in Matthew 6:14-15

May 23, 2012. Hope is not gone. It cannot be cut off. Without hope you could never expect a future worth living. But I tell you that your future is secure in Me alone. All others will in some way leave you even if only through natural death. This is why you must place all your hope in Me. It is impossible for you and Me to ever be separated because I have made an eternal covenant to protect and provide for you forever. No one else can make that claim but Me. Your life is eternal and you will only transition from earth to heaven some day in a glorious shout of praise.
Proverbs 23:18 (NASB) “Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.” Ras Robinson

May 23, 2012. Some poor choices you have made in the past have caused you not to step up to bat. There are some things which you can do but you don’t feel qualified. You have repented and allowed Me to make changes in your behavior. You think your behavior has not been tested and fear you may not follow through. You can do this, but you will never know unless you start with the first steps. Don’t get it in your mind that you have to do this perfectly. Just take one step… one move at a time. You will be pleasantly surprised because you have been learning to rely on My Spirit.
Psalms 18:36-38 (NASB) “You enlarge my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped. I pursued my enemies and overtook them, And I did not turn back until they were consumed. I shattered them, so that they were not able to rise; they fell under my feet.” Bev Robinson

May 23, 2012. Be careful how you respond. In college I took a communication class and found out an interesting fact about how we communicate. Only fifteen percent of communication is verbal. The other eighty-five percent is non-verbal. The Lord says, “Slow down in your response with those you have face-to-face conversation. Though you may be annoyed with how they act or speak, that does not give you the freedom to react in a condescending way. What you feel to be the truth may not be the truth at all. People recognize exasperation. Your irritation in matters is plain to see. Be patient with others as I am patient with you.”
James 1:19-21 (MSG) “Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God’s righteousness doesn’t grow from human anger. So throw all spoiled virtue and cancerous evil in the garbage. In simple humility, let our gardener, God, landscape you with the Word, making a salvation-garden of your life.” Kevin Robinson
Here is Dr. Joe………..
Diabetes is easy to prevent – if it’s caught early enough. It’s also the seventh leading cause of death in the United States, a fact that should motivate every at-risk adult to put diabetes screening at the top of his or her stay-healthy to-do list.
When and how often should you get tested for diabetes?
Current guidelines differ, but the American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends all adults who are overweight or have other diabetes risk factors be screened for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes starting at age 45. Your doctor may still recommend screening even if you’re at a normal weight but 45 or older.
Regular blood sugar tests are equally important for people already diagnosed with diabetes. These tests, performed both at home and the doctor’s office, tell you how well you’re controlling your blood sugar – a prerequisite to living a healthy, younger life with diabetes. Ask your doctor how often you should test your blood sugar.
Several types of tests can check for prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, and type 1 diabetes. All of them measure your blood glucose (sugar) level, but under different circumstances.
Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG) Test
This test measures your fasting blood sugar levels and is the preferred test for diagnosing diabetes. You’ll be asked to fast overnight and give a blood sample in the morning, before you’ve eaten anything. This test is used to diagnose prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, and type 1 diabetes.
What test results mean:
Normal Lower than 100 mg/dL
Prediabetes 100 to 125 mg/dL
Diabetes Higher than 126 mg/dL
Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)
This test measures how your body responds to a sugar “challenge.” After fasting overnight, your fasting blood glucose is tested. You’ll then be given a sugar solution to drink and your blood sugar will be tested over the next few hours. This test is used to diagnose all types of diabetes.
What the test results mean:
Normal Less than 140 mg/dL
Prediabetes 141 to 199 mg/dL
Diabetes Higher than 200 mg/dL
Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) Test
Unlike other tests, which measure blood sugar levels at a specific time, this test measures your average blood sugar level over the past 3 months. Take this test every 6 months if your diabetes is well-controlled, and every 3 months if it’s poorly controlled.
What the test results mean:
Normal Below 5.6%
High risk 5.7% to 6.4% (the A1C is normally used to monitor, not diagnose, prediabetes
Diabetes 6.5% or above
To confirm a diagnosis of diabetes, a repeat test must be done on a different day. A second test is not required for a diagnosis of prediabetes, unless you’re considering treatment with medication. Medication for prediabetes is not recommended without a confirmed diagnosis of both impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and impaired fasting glucose (IFG).
A random blood sugar test may be used to diagnose diabetes if there are also distinct symptoms that strongly suggest diabetes. A random glucose test may be given at any time, whether or not you’ve recently eaten, and a result of 200 mg/dL or higher indicates diabetes.
In Thursday’s Medical Bag, I’ll share with you on how someone can overcome the challenges of controlling diabetes to live a healthier, happier life.
